Leaking Water Dispenser Line in Refrigerator
We have a relatively new Frigidaire side by side refrigerator with water/ice dispenser on the freezer side. For some weeks now, most times we opened the fridge a small amount of water would leak out. We thought at first it might be condensation. Last night, I finally figured out the cause of the problem.

There is a semi-clear flexible plastic tube that runs from the filter at the top of the fridge down through a hole at the bottom of the fridge where I believe it connects up to the water/ice dispenser in the freezer. Right before it enters the bottom hole, a large amount (probably 5 feet or so) of this flexible tubing. It is clear that there is a small hole in some part of this tubing because every time the water or ice dispenser is activated, water leaks from this coil of tubing. I've place the tubing in a plastic bag to collect the water and that has resolved the problem temporarily, of course. I can post photos if need be, just let me know.

So, my question is, how do I go about fixing this. Is there some type of material I can use to patch this tubing? Better yet, is there really any reason why there is so much of the tubing coiled up? Is it necessary or just extra material? Would I be able to cut out the leaky portion or can I actually cut out much of the excess? If so, how would I go about splicing the two parts together? Is there a special connector?

Any help would be much appreciated as the plastic bag is filling up. ;)

    Thanks!

I do not know this specific fridge, but try to assist here :

Contact the supplier of your fridge to discuss the why's and how's you have, or get a service manual by either contacting Frigidaire, or go to the (The Sears website - Service)

    Success !

I have exactly the same problem today, my basement is full of water from the leak... same maker, fridgedaire. My cousin had same problem last year and I thought it was just his luck. Looks like this is a design defect!

If you can find the leak cut the tubing there and reattach either length to the filter or the ice maker, which ever is easier. Discard unused portion. Excess is probably to make kit fit different models and situations. If neither length is long enough to reattach, purchase similar material of same size at Home Depot or Lowe's and replace.

The excess coil of tubing is a reservoir for chilling water before it makes it to your glass. These used to be copper on older models but due to cost of copper and companies being cheap, they changed to plastic.
