    Kenmore Dryer 800 series- won't start
    My 800 series Kenmore dryer won't start. It was in the middle of a drying cycle and stopped. I opened it and immediately thought that for a "medium heat" cycle it was WAY too hot. So I thought maybe it overheated and tripped the breaker. But it hadn't and, silly me, the light is still turning on when the door is open so it obviously has power. And it's been half a day now and is cooled down but still won't start. I clean my lint trap every cycle, if that matters to a hill of beans. : )
    There is a little click noise when I hit the "push to start" button but nothing else. And holding it down does nothing.

    Diy, could be a burnt out heat sensor, improper or blocked vents will cause this. Post the model number.

    So your doing the repairs yourself? Do you own a Volt?Ohm meter? Recheck the model number.

    I hope we can do the repairs ourselves (my husband is fairly handy around the house). But it depends on where we end up in the process of figuring out the possible culprit. I have a series # too... MT4713016 I couldn't find anything else but may be able to do so if it is taken apart(?)

    Your drier has burned out the safety that prevents fires. The drier will have to be totally disassembled and cleaned by taking out air ducts and washing the pieces out. The blower fan will have to be cleaned, as well, and the motor will need vacuuming out. Then you have to replace the safety. You probably have a two inch build-up of dirt inside. DrTom4444

    I too am having this problem and I just called Sears. I have a similar washer that is about 1.5 years old. They said that my solution was to purchase an extended warranty or send a repair person out both to the tune of several hundreds of dollars (on top of a product I spent multiple hundreds of dollars for.) It is really sad to me that an American company has to resort to what is basically extortion to keep it running.

    This will be my last product I ever purchase from Sear, a sears brand or connected company. Please tell everyone you know to boycott Sears/Kenmore.

    The model number was correct; most sites we couldn't find it but finally we were rewarded on Home Depot's parts site where the number, just as we had it, popped up to choose from. Weird. Yes, we own an Ohm meter and were able to use it to determine that the High Limit Thermostat was bad. We ordered the part and will see if that's the only thing that needs replacing.

    All cleaned out! Thanks. We are currently waiting for the high limit stat to arrive so we can replace it; it was bad as predicted.

    Yeah they have a repair line but I didn't even try it (our dryer is way older) figuring they would try to charge me for help or insist on sending their repairman. Luckily when you DIY, online help is abundant! Thanks for the heads-up.

    Almost all drier problems are due to a build-up of dirt. Think about it- a drier just heats the air and tumbles clothes. What can go wrong? Most house fires are due to dirt build-up in driers. Keep them clean and you will have no problems. DrTom4444
