    How do I access the switch for washing machine?
    I have a Whirlpool high capacity top loading washing machine and I need to replace the switch that is triggered by the closed lid so that the spin cycle can start.

    I have the switch.
    I see how it works.
    I have mounted it in the lid frame.
    I need to connect the wiring.

    I turned the washer on its back to try to access it that way and the switch/wiring connector is too high.
    Do I take the back panel off? I am in the process of doing that, but it doesn't look very easy to reassemble.

    Do I lift the top frame off? I wedged a screw driver in the joint where the lid frame and the body frame come together and it didn't give very easily. I am scared I will break something if I try to force it.

    I took the top part off - the part that houses the timer and temperature selector. It does not give access to the switch wiring junction.

    Open the cabinet. Remove the 2 console screws,flip up the console & disconnect the lid switch terminal block. Pry off the cabinet clips, one on each side. Rock the cabinet away from the rear panel and lift it off the locating tabs on base of unit. Now you should be able to replace the switch

    The console is where the back piece where the timer is located. The cabinet the outside body of unit. Sounds like you need to call a tech for service. I don't know how else to explain it to you

    Just because I do not know what things are called does not mean I cannot make the repair. I just asked for layman's terms rather than industry terms.
