GE side by side problem freeze problem
    Hello
I have a GE side by side model ( GSL22JFTABS) 6 yrs old
My problem is sometimes my freezer won't freeze to good , and also the water dispenser won't dispense water ( think it is froze up),I have changed the filter, and also changed temperature there has been times that food in the freezer can be there for 2-3 days without freezing. I understand that when you fill the freezer with fresh meat it takes longer to freeze solid , but not without putting anything in it for a few days at a time, and my KLONDIKE won't freeze solid in door.
    Thank you Royer

    Here is a manual: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8010163/GE_...ide_refrig.pdf
You are going to have to first clean the condenser coils by removing back and washing out coils with spray soap and a spray from hose nozzle. Clean fan, too. Then after it is clean you need to check the defrost system. Write back when you clean condenser.

    Hello again
    Been away for a while
I cleaned the coils out the best I could without totally removing it from the fridge ,there was a lot of dust build up on it . Maybe that's all it needed?
    Now what to do??

You should spray down coils with "409," "Fantastic," or another spray cleaner and wash off with a spray of water from a hose nozzle. This is the best way to clean coils, and the only way to clean some types of coils. If you cannot do that then what you did will have to do. You always need to clean the fan blades with a spray cleaner, though. There is a nut on the front of most fan blades that will allow you to remove it for cleaning. Dirt on the fan kills a great amount of airflow. You need to watch it for a while to see if it is freezing like it should. If not, the first test to do is to defrost the freezer coils if covered with ice. If the defrost system is not working then the unit will not work right. You should find the defrost timer and advance it until it clicks once. This will turn off the compressor and freezer fan. Wait and see if the unit defrosts. You will know because vapor will come out of freezer coils. If it does not do this then you have a problem with the defrost system which is composed of the timer, the defrost t-stat, and the defrost heater. You can replace all three parts for about $30-40. I do not know if you have one of the new electronic models, but if not it will be a simple fix. If the unit does not come back on after 15-20 minutes then you need a new defrost timer.

    Hello again
Well cleaning the coils seem to have fixed it ,but I will go back under and remove the fan blade and give it a good cleaning. And will have to do the cleaning at least once a year.
    Thank you all very much

You are welcome any time. Remember, this applies to all refrigeration equipment like AC units and even water fountains. It all has to breathe.
