    It sounds like you have a stuck thermostat. In that situation you can unplug it and pull it loose from the mounting and put a meter on the leads after unhooking the wires and see if you can get it to open. If not, replace it with a universal Ranco freezer thermostat. Make sure to route the capillary tube exactly like the old one with the same amount exposed and the rest coiled up safely behind the thermostat and not touching any exposed terminals on wires or wiring terminals. These should be insulated. This kind of problem will kill your freezer if you don't fix it quickly. Avoid any sharp bends in capillary tube as this will ruin it.
