Call another contractor to come fix it, you may not fix it properly or worse cause damage to your home or yourself. Call the contractor who split and tell them they will pay you for the damages and the cost of the new contractor or you will seek legal recourse.

What exactly is the problem? Was the flex to a gas dryer damaged? I think you can buy a new one for $5-$10, and it may be an upgrade from the old one. Fighting the contractor may cost you more in Excedrin. The newer plastic coated ones have some important safety features the old ones didn't. Take the old one off, and go to HD, although Lowe's usually has lower prices and a better selection on plumbing stuff. A hardware store is more likely to have somebody to help you find what you need. Carefully match up the old and new. Likely at least one end will have a flare fitting, a nut that pulls a seat against a conical fitting. There is also pipe thread, slightly tapering threads and just the end of the pipe. Pipe thread needs some kind of sealant, Teflon tape is popular. Do not put it or anything else on a flare fitting. This shouldn't be a big deal. After you have the new line on, and the gas on, apply soapy water to the connections. If you see bubbles, try tightening it some more. Also make sure all your joints are pipe to pipe, and flare to flare. Post back if you need more help.

    XD

I'm glad it's that easy though, if you think it's not risky to try to fix it herself, I'm glad you came to help! :) Saves some time and money!
