    Dishwasher Overflowing and Water Left in Bottom of Unit
    Hi everyone,

    I've been without a dishwasher for years because I thought mine was bad. When I first moved into my condo I had a half size, ancient dishwasher that started to overflow about the third time I used it. After several years I decided to replace it with a full size unit and on my second wash it did the same thing! It's definitely not the washer and I can't afford to pay a plumber $75/hr to come fix what is probably a simple thing that I can do myself. Can anyone help me out? Tell me where to start?

    I have had similar problem with wate standing in the bottom of my dishwasher, found it was not the dishwasher but the drain somehow, somewhere was clogged, here's what I do and have done several times and each time I was successful in getting the water to drain and this has stopped the problem so that the washer drains properly until every three or 4 months I have to repeat the procedure. Maybe it will work for you. I have a double sink right next to where the washer is installed, and one sink has a garbage disposal. I turn the water on full blast, get a good toilet plunger ready, cover one of the sink drains good so that when I plunge the othe sink drain, no air comes out of either drain. This is just as I turn on the garbage disposal, then I repeat the process on the other sink drain, covering one and plunging the other with the water running full blast and the disposal on. Hopefully you have a similar setup as to mine, i.e. with a sink or sinks near the washer and with a garbage disposal. Let me know if this works for you. I would be interested to know.

    Most have a float inside the lower pan that activates a switch which operates the drain function. Check to see if it moves easily, it should be free enough that just the water level activates the float. What brand and model?

    Does the drain hose connect above the trap under the sink? If so it may be a kinked hose or even some buildup in the nipple that the dishwasher drain hose clamps on to. I's start there.
