    I cleaned my oven and now when I try and turn it on it trips the rcd, why?
    I cleaned my oven, and now when I turn the temperature knob it trips the rcd. Why is it doing this. It started yesterday at about two, any help would be grateful. I have used kitchen roll to see if there is any water in the oven but it coming out dry.what next?

    Please clarify:
    1. what do you mean by "rcd."?
    2. what do you mean by "kitchen roll"?
    3. Ovens don't typically use water, so what do you mean by "water in the oven"?

    Rick, this is an international website.

    RCD stands for Residual Current Device, popular in Europe, and other countries. Here is the USA we call them GFI, Ground Fault Interrupters.

    Kitchen roll is a roll of paper towels.

    Eoraid, when cleaning you either got water near some electrical connections and caused a short circuit, disturbed a connection, or could have damaged the heating element.

    If you used water or some other cleaning product, it may dry up in a day or so, clear the short, and begin working again.

    If not, there may be damage beyond your capability to repair, and need to call in an appliance repair tech.

The rcd on my consumer unit has started to trip on loads over 1kw ,its just the upstairs sockets which used to be fine with three heaters.I can't find water or obvious damage.its currently a 30mA,can I change it for 100mA?
