    My bathroom pipes busted and I turned the valve off connected to my hot water heater
    My bathroom pipes busted [hot water not cold] and there where no taps to turn off water so I turned the valve off connected to my hot water heater to stop the water flow, is this wise??

    This post should have been made on th plumbing site. You'll get more responses there, but yes that was wise. Otherwise, you would have water every where. However, as you know by now, you don't have any hot water anywhere. Give more details about where and how pipe burst, what kind of pipe and we can probably help you. Perhaps a moderator could move this thread.

    While the water is shut off, add a shut off valve to the bursted pipe. Now you can have hot water to other points in the home until you can replcae the bursted pipe

    Also if you have no hot water going INTO, the hot water heater you want to turn it off, if water is going to be off to this for any amount of time.
    But when there is water shooting out, turning it over anywhere is better then no where.
