Natural Supplements for Anxiety and Depression
Are there any natural supplements for anxiety and depression? I am aware of the following supplements; fish oil capsules can be used for memory, St. John's Wort (anxiety and depression) Melatonin (sleep deprivation or insomnia) Biotin (Hair and nail growth) and Cod Liver Oil (boots the immune system and great skin) Any information would become beneficial. Thanks to all!

Fish oil is also good for stabilizing moods. B complex and sublingual B 12 are good for anxiety and depression.

At bedtime you can drink chamomile tea or passion flower tea
Lavender and sandle wood scents (candles, bath oil, etc,, ) are good for stress.
Also watch what you eat. Avoid foods with preservatives like message monosodium glutamate

There is tincture that is called stress ease. It works wonders, do you eat before you go to bed? Do you eat sugar? Maybe you should consider acupressure , just as natural .cure the stress with pressure. WWW.Foodforlifesupreme.org will have tincture stress ease.

Valeriana officianalis is an herb which relieves anxiety and depression. It may be had in the form of herbal tea.
L-theanine, an amino acid derived from Green Tea, is another herbal supplement for anxiety with a significant anti-anxiety effect and is said not to be habit-forming.
Then again, as has been mentioned in the answer above, Chamomille and Passion flower work well, too.
Sandal wood paste applied to the forehead can also be tried!

If you are taking any medication currently, please check with your health care provider or pharmacist before taking any herbal remedies. Many herbs can negatively counteract medications.

A growing number of Americans are using herbal products for preventive and therapeutic purposes. Physicians must be alert for adverse effects and drug interactions associated with herbal remedies, and they should ask all patients about the use of these products.

There are very good Chinese herbs to treat depression and anxiety. A practitioner of Chinese medicine would need to do an assessment to look for the underlying cause… from a Chinese medicine point of view. They will look for patterns of signs and symptoms that the Chinese have seen for thousands of years and then they will create an herbal formula just for you. There is a whole classification of Chinese herbs that are said to “nourish the blood to calm the spirit”. These are often used to treat curtain types of anxiety. Another class of herbs are said to “sooth the Qi” (this is sort of like energy in the body) that are also used.
Chinese herbs are very specialized to the person so I can’t tell which herbs would be good for you. There are thousands of herbs and you have take just the right ones for you but when you do they are so nice and effective. They are also not sedating which is nice. They are much more potent than something like St. John’s Wort. I have never seen St. John’s Wort be helpful for anything other than a mild under-the-weather type of thing.

VALERIAN ROOT... anxiety, sleeplessness, depression... take at night as it may make you sleepy during the day.
PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR FIRST,ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE ON OTHER PERSCRIBED DRUGS.

Another great defense against depression is exercise and moving your body.
Even just 20 minutes of walking every day gets those "feel good" chemicals moving through your system. Just thought I'd mention it!

St John's Wort or Hypericum is excellent for mild depression. I have used it often in the past with really good results.

See above cautions re: ST Johns Wort but I swear by it and endorphins. If you have no contraindications SJW is a whole lot less dangerous than a lot of the pharmas out there.
The best, though, is endorphins which naturally and healthily alter mood, kill pain, eases arthritis and in general improves health.
The problem is that it does not come in the form of a pill. You have to exercise to get it.
Small price for all of its great benefits.
