    Densest timber?
What is the densest timber that can be bought in large pieces?

By large, I mean a timber that could be bought in a piece big enough to make a solid-body electric guitar with no splits in the wood...

I don't know about guitars, but I know that slow growing trees make denser, harder wood than fast growing trees. If it was growing very slowly, in shade or with little water, it can be much more dense.
