Hey there, not sure if there are any Canadians out there but I have a tax question.

I am making some money on the internet through affiliate marketing. I promote other people's products for a commission.

I was wondering, how I can report this on my income tax. Do I need to register a business name? I heard that I don't need to. If not, can I claim my expenses to this unofficial business?

Thanks

I am speaking from a U.S. perspective, but I am sure it applies the same way for Canadian tax law.

The money earned through affiliate marketing is earned income and this fully taxable. If it was over $400, it would be considered self-employment income on a U.S. tax return, reported on Schedule C.

I suspect the Canadian tax authorities would treat it the same way as well.
