Order of Operations - PEMDAS (http://www.mathsisfun.com/operation-order-pemdas.html)

In this case, you will multiply first 3X3
Then start at the left, and work your way over.

No the answer is not 3

It is not 3.

Look at order of operations. Multiplication comes before addition/subtraction.
