I have a four year old washer that recently wouldn't ring out the clothes. It just wouldn't spin fast enough to ring out the clothes. I checked the water pump and it seems to pump a lot of water and I didn't find any trash.
So I purchased and OEM clutch and installed the clutch. It made no difference. When I turned the machine to spin cycle, I heard the motor straining trying to get the basket spinning faster, but something was making it difficult for the motor to achieve high speed, which it did not achieve. I removed the motor and shaft, so all that is left is the cabinet and wash drum. I grabbed the brake cam and I could turn it by hand with the machine laying on its back. The drum is difficult to turn by hand when the machine is in the upright position and without the motor or shaft in it. The washer exhibits sounds like something is binding the motor and not allowing it to run its cycle. I believe the motor is OK.

I would appreciate any suggestions on where to look next for the issue?
