My 98 honda accord v6 recently had the engine lite come on and the code is 0740, at the store the guy said it was the torque converter or maybe a sensor.
The chiltons says it falls under the transaxel.
In the last few months the shifting hasn't been changing a bit, at times the rpms are higher before shifting in D4 and when it does it's a harder shift into another gear, doesn't do it all the time but more so when your taking it easy on the acceleration, when you hit the gas harder to merge into traffic faster it doesn't seem have probs.
Where/what is a good place to start checking

OK, reseached the site and found another 98 honda, a civic not a accord.
TX grease monkey said this about the 0740 code

[qote]P0740 means there is a problem with either the torque converter or the control system for the torque converter in your car. It might be such a slight problem that you don't notice anything or it may eventually be totally undriveable. It depends on what part of the system failed and how badly it failed. It can be anything from a simple fluid and filter change (to get debris out of the fluid that might be clogging the solenoid), or it could be an electrical problem (such as the solenoid or wiring) or the torque converter itself has failed (which would mean the entire transmission is likely ruined from the debris). It can be a difficult problem to diagnose--and impossible to diagnose without taking anything apart (or at least test driving it with diagnostic equipment). Start with the basic, and inexpensive, stuff like a fluid and filter change and work your way up from there, as long as the car is still driveable.

I guess I'll try a fluid/filter change on the tranny and see what happens.
What kind of tran fluid needs to be used? Would a full synthetic be better?
