You're engaged and not sure if you're allowed to talk to your fiancé?
Wow! I'll never understand the difference in some cultures. I would think that talking to your future wife should be okay. Will you be allowed to talk to each other once you're married?
Makes no sense to me at all.

Wa à leikumus-Salaam. May Allaah bless you for having taqwa. No it`s not advisable to converse privately before marriage, because it`s similar to a case of you being alone with her. And you know the Hadiith that The Messenger of Allaah -sAaws- said there is not a case where a man is alone with a woman (non-maHram), but that Shaitaan is the third among them.
There should always be a wali present with her, or at least another sister, or a good brother with you, who hear and are present in the conversation, though they may or might not participate in it. It`s more advisable that you make nikaaH, and extend your relation with her as Halaal without danger of crossing Allaahs Huduud, and still be `engaged` in that you may have a fixed time that you get to know each other before you move together, OK? This is what I know, and Allaah knows best. And best whishes and Salaam to you both.
