Right click on My Computer and choose properties
-hardware tab and then click device mgr
-look down list and look for any devices listed there that have a yellow mark present and post what info is next to the ones with yellow marks

Also, what model computer do you have

Really going to need the actual model # of the computer

Like, a dell w3945 or something like that,

The make and model # of the computer itself

The only name displayed on the computer is ZIP. On system properties, I clicked computer name and it says

---- YOUR-004DBB8624. Unless u know how else I can retieve the information you need. However, I think its just kind of a basic computer for my home use only. I hope this helps. Thanks

Any manuals that may have come with PC?

Was this a home built system?

We can try to use software to get some info

On the left hand top of page, click on CPU-Z 1.52 setup and once downloaded, install and run the program
CPUID (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php)

Once run, go to the Mainboard tab and post the manufacturer and model that is given

Hopefully we can get some info from that to go on.

You need to install the program and then run it

The box that comes up after the prgram has been run will have 6 tabs along the top
-CPU, Cache, Mainboard, Memory, SPD, and About
-click on the Mainboard tab and post the info that is listed next to manufactuer and Model

OK, I am pretty sure that you will need AC97 drivers for the audio driver

Go to link below and click the Click here to Download* (in blue) about half way down page
-After you click the link it will take about 10 secs or so for the download box to come up - Save to your hard drive

Once downloaded:
-right click on My Computer and choose properties
-hardware tab and then click device mgr
-Now in device mgr, right click on Multimedia Audio Controller that has yellow mark next to it and choose Uninstall and say OK

Once uninstalled, close device mgr window
-Now go to where you saved the downloaded file below and run the program and follow instructions

-Restart computer

Now check your sound

VIA AC97 audio driver 6.80b download (http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilities/viaac97.html)
