Hi,
I removed the toilet and floor of one of my 1952 house's bathroom. I retiled it but now the flange is 1/4' too high. The tube is metal concrete slab poured over it. It was higher before I put a wood panel over the flange and hammered it down. I thought it would slide inside the metal tube but did not.Instead it flattened it. What can I do to replace it or fix it without destroying the floor.

Hi Alexandra...

If the flange is only 1/4" above finish floor then I would suggest that you try to install the toilet DRY FIT (without wax gasket in place) and see if the toilet sits flush to the finished floor. If it does then set the toilet as you would normally.

If not, then pop back and we will see what we can come up with. Most likely you will be fine here... ;)

Follow Marks advice and dry fit the bowl. All toilet bowls have a lip that raises the bowl up about 1/2". Your bowl should set over the flange without binding and the horn will direct the discharge into the closet bend. Good luck, Tom

Mark and Tom are giving you great advice: all toilets are designed to absorb about 3/8" - about the thickness of closet ring flange. Dry-fit your toilet first. It will fit...
