View Full Version : The Artist in You! - Indexed by Artist

At last I am posting the "surprise" that I had promised to a number of you almost three weeks ago!

This is a tribute to "The Artist in you!" thread as started by firmbeliever, who is a member of this site. Although that thread started as being only about art in the visual sense on flat surfaces, it quickly evolved into including art concerning music, crafts, literary, furniture refinishing/restoration, woodcuts, photography, and that which concerned the theatrical arts. All of those types of art can overlap with and also compliment each other.

Because of the popularity of that thread and quality of various kinds of art that have been posted on it, I thought that it would be fitting to have some kind of index to it. Having something like that would be beneficial to the fine artists who have posted images on it who might want to cite references to what they have already done when helping other persons on other art type threads. I know that it has already happened where an artist who did post images on "The Artist in you!" thread was trying to tell someone where they had posted something on it, but couldn't remember where they had. Having this type of index should help. It would also be beneficial to have an index by subject of that thread. But, that would be something to be made on another thread.

This is still a work in progress, but I figured that I had better post something really soon before I leave for a few days for a three day gig and don't have any access to the Internet. It will still take some time to really complete it. I have already contacted all of those who have contributed images to that thread that this index has been made. Please let me know if what has been described about your art on a particular link could be worded better in some way and/or if a link doesn't work You could let me know in a reply on this thread or in a private message if you think something needs to be changed in some way.

If you would like to still comment on art that you might find on a particular link, please feel free to do so on this thread.

Thank you!

Clough

Thank you for working so hard on this "surprise" Clough. There have been numerous times when I have wanted to share some of the art work on this thread with a friend who was visiting in my home only to go through page after page and not be able to locate the ones I wanted to share. I know this has taken a great deal of your time to do and I appreciate it so much!

I sure miss the little community that had formed on this thread. I miss everyone!

Thanks again for taking your time to put this together!

I just sent the following private message to a number of people on this site who might have an interest in what is going on here.

Concerning "The Artist in you!" - Indexed by Artist Thread

Dear AKaeTrue, BiWiccanAndProud, bushg, cal823, chek101, clafairey, CMM_Kaleido, Delow84, erlobenauer, firmbeliever, frangipanis, grammadidi, HistorianChick, jrebel7, kp2171, METERRE, sGt HarDKorE, startover22 and templelane,

This is also being sent to some art enthusiasts above, who may not have posted their works, but have nonetheless been enthused about the thread.

Some of you knew that I have been preparing a "surprise" as a tribute to "The Artist in you!" thread. It is now posted on the following link: https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/art/art...st-199144.html (https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/art/artist-you-indexed-artist-199144.html) I just wanted you to be aware that the thread has been started.

However, it's not complete, nor perfect and will need some tweaking. It is meant to be a permanent index for that thread. The next index that might be coming concerning it would be a topical index.

If you had posted works and I have described your works and posted a link underneath the description, please, by all means correct me or let me know that you would like to have it described in some different way. I can change things... You could let me know on the thread or in a private message.

Also, please let me know if any links on the thread do not work

I will be gone for the next several days to play a gig in another city and most likely won't have any access to the Internet, just to let you know.

Thank you, kindly!

Clough

I do want to emphasize that I would appreciate it if you would correct me with what I have posted already. Also, firmbeliever and grammadidi, I would appreciate it if if you would let me know how you would like your works on your links described. Your descriptions would do much better justice to what you have posted than my descriptions would. It would be good to keep things in the same, general format though.

Thank you!

Clough, wow, this is so amazing. You took all that time, you are AMAZING!
I have tears in my eyes, I haven't posted any art here (I will) but when I come into the artist in you thread, I feel you all, I see what you have done, I hear the messages, I saw friendships grow through art of many sorts. This is the most wonderful thoughtful gesture!

Thank you for your question, starover22! It wasn't my intention that this thread be a completely new art thread that would be a continuation of some kind for "The Artist in you!" But, just one that would be an index and place for those who wished to continue to comment on the work that was done in "The Artist in you!" thread could continue to do so.

I wish that threads didn't have to be closed after reaching 1,500 posts. But, you know, with an index to the thread, maybe it's possible that exceptions can be made. Don't know about that though...

My goal/plans are to start a thread that will be all-inclusive to various types of artists. But, things still need to be worked out about that.

So many of us have formed a sort of "community" here and it would be good if that community could continue in some way with some sort of central thread/meeting/idea/sharing place. This would not preclude the starting of entirely new threads that are devoted to only specific types of art, or those that would like to share about their art, whatever it is, on an entirely different thread other than a central thread.

I have no problem with people posting duplicate images in different threads. That just adds to the richness and diversity to the threads without people having to do a lot of hunting for what they want because only links might be posted in a thread.

I think that indexes are important for people doing research, and should be centrally located as stickies.

I think that it's important for everyone to feel free to start whatever type of art thread that they would like to in the Art topic area.

I do suppose that on this thread here, that it would be appropriate to post new works, as long as they are related to those that are listed in the index. After all, it is meant to be an index...

This is the way that the fine work that was done on "The Artist in you!" thread could continue.

I do hope that everyone understands where I am going with all of this. It ain't easy to figure it all out!

I don't have any pics of these to share because I used to make these as gifts and give away. I was talking to startover22 about a way to use aluminium cans in another post and I just remembered how I used to use them.

I would take coffee cans or veggie cans and take metal cutters and cut out different shapes. These cutters had ridges in them that would make the metal have ridges in them... so that I did not get cut. For instance I would cut out a large half circle from the bottom of a large can and then from a smaller can I would cut out smaller half circles and then I would paint all of them in the shape of a rainbow and write the letters of the person name on each small cut out and suspend it from the larger one stagering the cutouts. I would stager more than one heart or cloud etc... on the same dangling line or they could be hung straight across on the bottom of the larger piece. **edit I would take a nail and pound through the tin to make a hole to run the thread/wire through.

If I did not want to put anything I just left the pieces blank and painted them. Sometimes I would use little affirmations, poems etc... on them. It would be a small or large mobile. I would do clouds, birds, flowers, hearts, moons, sun etc... depending on what the person liked.
I used wire, fishing line or metallic threads depending on how I wanted it to turn out. I mostly used arcylic paints and then put a clear finish on them for protection and to make them washable.

I just thought about these and wanted to share... I hope this post makes sense and you can envison my little craft project. ***Clough if this is not the right place to post this I'm sorry, feel free to delete or put in a recycling post or wherever you feel is appropriate.

No. I wish I did. I used to do arts and crafts and give everything away. I used to do flower arrangements as well. The only things I have left are my bird houses that I painted and my impromtu painting I did on a piece of plywood with house paint and my fingers and a nail and some cheap brushes. I thought it turned out quite well... lol my daughter called it a finger painting. I will see if I can make one of those mobiles and take a pic and have one of my dear children post it. When my children are finished with my paychecks and they have finished college I am going to take an art class... in the mean time I will be happy looking at other peoples art.

Jrebel I just saw your leaf paintings after clough indexed this site and I was awed by them.

A picture would be great!
It also reminds me of a string of christmas lights, with tin cans with holes punched in them to let the light out as pretty as possible. We had them on our deck a long time ago!
They would have been really great with deco or paint... Oh I am going to be very busy this summer. I just had a thought that these are great projects for the fall and winter time, and pull them out for a summer treat. All winter we can get ready for summer BBQ's and summer fun!

Thank you so much, friend4u178! Much appreciated! You are absolutely correct that even though some might not think that they are very talented at doing art in the visual sense, that they can still appreciate the art that is done by someone else! The way that a person appreciates something can also be an art in, and of itself. I do believe that, somewhere in you is also an artist in you, friend4u..

At last I am posting the "surprise" that I had promised to a number of you almost three weeks ago!

This is a tribute to "The Artist in you!" thread as started by firmbeliever, who is a member of this site. Although that thread started out as being only about art in the visual sense on flat surfaces, it quickly evolved into including art concerning music, crafts, literary, furniture refinishing/restoration, woodcuts, photography, and that which concerned the theatrical arts.

Thank you!

Hi, Clough. This week is too busy to be here.

In terms of the art, I think I am too young to comment, and I like to enjoy and admire it.

It's surprising that I got a comic book of Jimmy from my friend.

I always love his comic books very much, but I never buy any one. Because I think the beautifull comic book is suggested to be admired, not to be got.

I would really like to be able to view your video or what you've posted there, Sean! Unfortunately, I'm on a dial-up connection and it's really hard for me to do that.

Hopefully, there will be a forum in this topic area where all who are gifted in whatever types of arts can display their works and discuss them and what it is concerning the art that they produce.

To my knowledge, according to how things now work on this site, this forum probably isn't going to be noticed very much, except by those who've already posted on it. Threads that are really old get archived and aren't visible to others unless someone happens to go to the particular topic area.

Thank you so much for your commendation! It's much appreciated!

You have been missed here..

One thing that's sad, is that threads that are old are archived, and the only people that will see them are those who have posted on them and those who might wander onto and/or search for and subsequently explore a particular forum topic area.

I have been wanting to start a thread in the Art forum topic area for quite some time now. Not so much a continuation of that which has already happened, but something new, that would incorporate all of the Arts in various aspects.

Have been waiting for the right time to do that...

Just your reappearing has given me new inspiration, and for that, I thank you greatly!

A number of us here had something really good going for quite some time. It would be good to see those sort of sharing and relationships continue!

That would be good, Sean! We would love to see what you've currently be working on! New thread is coming soon, that hopefully will be full of lots of life like we used to have! We used to have so much fun, and it sure would be good to have it again!

Have already gotten another teen who wants to post some images in the Art forum topic area. Doesn't know how to do that and I need to show her how. She PM me about that.

Thanks!

It appears the person who posted comment referred to, only posted one so far total. Hi to all you sweet friends! I haven't been around much but hoping soon, that will change. I miss everyone, just circumstances demand my time elsewhere for now. Love to all!

I was going through the original "Artist in you" thread", brings back good memories.
I miss all of you from those days.Rarely do we get the time to get so many artists in one place.
