View Full Version : Inground liner installation

I just had the vinyl liner replaced in my 16 x 32 inground pool and discovered a problem with the installation. In the corners near the steps the border printed on the liner is stretched to the point that is about 4 inches wider than the rest of the pool. We have also had the liner pull loose from the coping twice in two days since the install. It really looks awful but I am most concerned with the long term problems this may cause. The contractor originally said that it was a manufacturing defect and he agreed to call the manufacturer to see what they would do to correct the problem. Mfg. says there is no defect and the reason for the distortion of the border is from stretching.

The contractor then admitted that he measured wrong but said there is nothing wrong with the installation writing the distorted border off as a minor cosmetic defect. He offered $200 off the price under his wrinkle guarantee. I have heard and read that if a liner is not properly measured long term problems from excess stress in certain areas of the pool will lead to the liner pulling loose constantly and the liner not lasting as long as it should or could.

I am very hesitant to accept the $200 discount and need to know if this error in measuring will lead to future problems.

I would really appreciate any feedback on this problem.

thanks

Here are some photos of the pool

Lets face it, the contractor screwed up and is hoping you'll accept a measley $200 rebate. You are correct and that strettched area will be a problem area for you. Pulling loose or tearing long before the rest of the liner is shot. I don't know what you were qouted but offer him haldf or tell him to pull it out and you'll call someone who can read a tape meausre.

I was there twice this winter. Could not wait to get home to GA to get warm.

Thanks again

Good you got him to admit fault, he has to replace it now at no cost to you. Is he also the owner of the installation business? If not call the owner. If they do nothing I would report him and see if you can put a lien against the business until repairs are made. Nasty but it works.

Razor96 - to answer your question - he is the co-owner of the business. I have refused to pay until the liner is remeasured and installed correctly.
