I have a Maytag MTB2156GE refrigerator that is around 4 years old.

Every time the refrigerator door closes the freezer door seal pops as if a puff of air has opened it. If closed slowly it reseals if not it pops open.

I have cleaned the seal and it looks in good shape and seals well. The freezer is not full and I have reorganized things to make sure nothing is in the way.

I have read on this site that the magnet might need to be replaced. If someone could elaborate as to where the magnet is and how to get a replacement that would be appreciated. I have tried to find the manual at Maytags site, but my model number comes up with no hits. Will examine things more closely tonight.

Is it normal to have a backwash of air into the freezer compartment. When I looked at the vent located on top of the refrigerator compartment I'm looking at vent holes and styrafome (sp) like from a cooler. Is is possible I'am missing some piece or some valve to prevent backwash is malfunctioning.

Thanks for any advice

The magent is inside the seal. You have cleaned the seal but have you cleaned the mating surface?

There actually is a small puff of air inside the freezer when the frig door is closed. They are connected by ducts and dampers. The magnetic door should hold it close but yours isn't as I understand. I would check the level of the unit and adjust the front feet up (raise front of frig) two full turns. Make sure it is level left to right.
