I am glad things are working out for you. I hope you find a job soon. How is R?

She's awesome, going to French Immersion-- she's adjusted to school very well-- even has been class leader a few times. She's happy with the pup not so much about him running away with her toys or the occasional attempt at herding her HA

She's becoming a funny young lady, the other she said two funny things:

1- "I need to watch out for cars when I cross the street, so I don't die and go to the hospital then you have to get a new kid"

2- "Do peoples have to stay girls and boys forever or can they switch?"

She's also become quite the deep thinker asking me questions about death (in her mind people die at 100-- and I'll just let her keep thinking that), and questioning about poor children. She's already donated some of her toys to one of those mission places and has tried to send her food in the mail-- lol don't know how her little 5 year old brain but that together but when I found food stuffed in an envelope in my mailbox it was the sweetest and funniest thing... she tried to write "to the hungry kids" but it ended up looking like gibberish.

She's a great kid, very happy still. Of course she has her "no" moods where she thinks she can tell me what to do.. but other than that no complaints :)

Here's a few photos so you get to see how much she's grown!!

We have Monarch, who is a dwarf gourami, Roger, Phinneaus, Ferb, Angel 2, and Boo Radley, who are mollies, and Harold, Sally, and Francine, the triplet tank suckers. We also have about 30 baby mollies in a breeding trap right now. The clueless teenager @ Petsmart told us that mollies were beginner fish. She neglected to tell us that the things breed like crazy, can have babies for three months in a row with no male in the tank, and are live-bearers, so we are finding babies almost every day. Of course, the fish have NO parental instinct, so we have lost some to "natural selection". They have almost doubled in size, we we have started to find homes for them.

As annoyed as I am to have so many ( and Ferb and Boo Radley are pregnant again), I don't want to just give them away to people who don't know how to properly maintain an aquarium for them. I've gotten a little attached to them.

Fish! I had a beta for a whole year! And then he died a month ago-- went belly up. I did feel a little sadness in my heart.. only because he actually would get happy to see me when it was feeding time-- he would swim around in circles and up and down. I would talk to him. Now there's a new fish I'm not fond of that replaced him :( I called him "Chump"-- I still feed him and stuff... but he's no Rainbow.

I can landscape like a champ, but if I pot a plant, it's basically a death sentence. The even the hosta shudder when I move a pot in their direction... and they are virtually indestructible.

I'm the exact opposite. I can keep any potted plant alive. In fact, many people have given me plants that they thought were dead, and they've come back to life under my care.

But, ask me to plant something outside and it's inevitable that it will die.

Alkali, I can tell you how on the V2 Light skin, but any other skin and I'm lost.

For V2;

1. Hit the "Go Advanced" button at the bottom of the posting window.

2. Hit the paper clip on the top of the posting window.

3. Browse for your picture, then upload.

4. When the picture loads you'll see it in the "Current attachments" section of that window.

5. Close down the window.

6. Push the paper clip button again.

7. click on the linked picture.

8. Post your question, and voilà. Picture posted. :)

Hi all.

So I'm ticked.

My kids are on spring break this week. I had yesterday off, and my boss booked me off for this Friday too. The schedule was put up last week, and when I was in last Friday I checked it again, and then made plans for Friday because I was booked off, and the kids aren't in school right now.

I was excited.

Well, today I come in, and they decided to book me for Friday. Worse, because they know that the kids are on spring break, the booked from 9-5 instead of my normal 9-3. Now I not only have to change the plans I made, but I have to work an extra 2 hours from my normal shift.

I'm ticked off! I want to spend some time with my kids! :(

Yikes.

Here's a very sad thing, and I wish it weren't true, and can't even begin to express (on the internet) how bad it really is. But, the skunk spray likely smells 10 times better than my manager. I've puked because of her stench. I've actually vomited.

She bathes around once a month, less if she thinks it's not needed. Her smell goes beyond the norm. Keep in mind that I've smelled decomposing bodies. I'd prefer that to her. Her smell is beyond description.

I prefer the skunk. Compared to her a skunk is perfume.

Axel learned "bed" today!! Sure he does it only half the time-- it's only day 1 but HURRAH! He goes to bed on command (when it clicks into his brain what it is I want him to do).

Oh and also happy news! His fear is seriously gone! I took him out to the park after school and he was running around with my daughter and digging holes in the sand and greeting people and playing with children (no nipping at all or trying to herd lol). He also played with another puppy.

I'm so happy he's now a well balanced dog. I didn't see him cower or urinate himself once-- there were loud noises (there was construction going when we walked home), "scary" men, cars & motorcycles, big dogs walking by, and buses!

He was happy happy to be walking (loose leash too!). I'm so darn happy. I love my boy :)

Alty--unless they go out of their way to OKAY a schedule change with you, ONLY check it the day it is posted. If they CHANGE it, then they need to OKAY it with you.

Otherwise, you weren't scheduled originally, and you don't need to be there. Period.

Initial and date the day you check your schedule. Better yet, take a photo of it with your phone if you can, and stick to the ORIGINAL schedule.

They won't change it without checking with you after you don't show up, and can show that you weren't scheduled.

J_9
Mar 27, 2012, 11:13 PM
Yeah, it's unfortunate, but as an employee you are required to keep up with your schedule. If it needs to be changed for unforeseen reasons, the manager can change it without approval at their discretion. They can do this unless you have an official date(s) requested off to cover shifts in case of an emergency.

This may not apply to you or Alty, but to be sure you might want to check with your scheduling manager. We just lost 2 good employees (they quit) because of schedule changes that were not approved by the employees. Management came back and said that they have the right to change a schedule after it is posted without prior approval for staffing issues. It's also in our employee handbook.

Good morning! What a long day already. Our city is basically in the process of shutting down right now due to the final four NCAA championship. Technically the whole state is affected, but my city specifically is really going crazy. I live in Louisville, KY and given that our biggest state rivalry is now about to compete for a spot for National basketball champion, it's just a little insane. Whew. Of course, it doesn't help that I work in a branch of government that has to pre-plan road closings, and there most certainly will be many come Saturday. I just hope the rioting doesn't reach the Vancouver/Stanley cup levels... so far all we have had are couch and bed burnings. Yay hillbilly riots.

Synnen - that is a smart idea, and I used to do the same in retail, but I think J-9 is right. Employers have started adding things into handbooks or even the paperwork you sign when hired to prevent that.

Aurora_Bell - At least you got a winter! It's been spring here since November, and Summer for the last 2 weeks straight. LOL. Winter passed us by completely! My sons were so upset because I bought them a shiny new sled back in October and we never got a flurry!

Well, the biggest part for me is that they can freaking fire me if they screw with my plans. I am a part time worker for the sanity, and they pay me $8.80 an hour. I really don't need the job badly enough to put up with constant shift changes--I WILL just get another job that is more accommodating.

Plus I don't think they can EVER schedule you outside of the shifts you say you're available, even if your kids are on spring break or whatever. If you say you're only available from 9-3, that's when you're available. I KNOW my handbook states that they have to ASK for any time outside of those hours... especially since so many people are working multiple jobs and re-scheduling can screw that up.

It's probably not the same for professional jobs, like medicine or law or business management or whatever, but for retail, I think it's true. Plus, they aren't usually stupid enough to screw with the people that work and do a good job, because THOSE people CAN get jobs elsewhere, and usually with little notice, even in this economy.

I've been on the floor at my job for exactly 3 shifts now and I've been headhunted twice.

It's been rough Doula. As you know we got a new OB about a year ago and recently a local L&D department closed, so we have been picking up their slack. Now we lost a full time employee and a PRN nurse. Yes, I'll be picking up the slack, nice paycheck, but time away from the family.

Extra pay always helps... make time for family when you can... :)

I have a hard time saying no to taking on additional classes, partly because the extra money is nice and partly because I just enjoy doing them, but I do find I can burn the candle at both ends if I am not careful. Getting better at saying "no"... but when they need your help to cover, sometimes you want to help out when you can.

J_9
Mar 28, 2012, 03:54 PM
I'm also looking at my annual review in May. The pay increase would be nicer if I just went along with the schedule rather than make waves. Luckily my husband works from home, so the kids have a parent here at all times. Neither of the kids still at home remember a time when Mommy didn't work this hard and these long hours, so it's really nothing new to them.

I really enjoy my job and the people I work with, so it's not that bad really.

I love my job too. And for the most part am there when they need me. But days like today try my patience with people.
I almost lost a tiny patient. A 4 1/2 pound chihuahua mix with a broken jaw, didn't do so well in recovery, we got him back and he is fine this evening. This little guy should have never been under anesthesia to begin with.
Because his parents fed him with the other larger family dog right there, and what do you think happened, yes small dogs head wound up in the large dogs mouth.
That is the THIRD one this YEAR.

He thinks that baths are fun time... so it doesn't calm him at all, it winds him up. He's just being a crankapotamus, and doesn't really WANT anything. His gums hurt and that's it as far as he's concerned--though the wet washrag thing really helps, thanks J. He doesn't really nap at all during the day--that's been one of my peeves for months. If he sleeps at all between when he gets up in the morning (around 10 or so) and when he goes to bed at night (3 in the morning or so), it's for only 1/2 hour or so, which isn't long enough for ME to nap!

I've been trying to reach my friend at the hospital all day. They will tell me she's still there, but I can't reach her in her room, and they can't tell me what's going on with her (as it should be). But I don't know if she can have visitors or not in the oncology ward, and they can't even tell me that--I don't want to bundle up Boo and drive the 45 minutes to the hospital only to have them tell me she doesn't want or can't have visitors. I'm just hoping she'll call me back soon. If not, I'll leave baby with hubby and just go. I know she loves Boo, though, and it would cheer her up to see him. ARRGH! Circular thoughts!

Thanks all for the thoughts. I really appreciate it.

J_9 - Sorry to hear that you had to go through all the HIPAA/patient confidentiality madness - seems pretty innocuous what went on. I wish there was a way to insulate people from undue/unfair scrutiny. When my dad was working as a doctor (anesthesiologist), he didn't have to deal with any of the paperwork/HIPAA stuff - healthcare administration rules have changed a lot and I guess it's a good thing but it can get frustrating at times.

I am glad the final outcome is good, but seems unfortunate to have to prove your innocence!

Thanks Ram, it's all due to this computer charting. They can see who accesses the records at all times. I was legit in my accessing even though it wasn't my patient. The physician's assistant at the hospital where the patient was transferred called with some questions so I had to access. Once this was explained to administration it was understood.

I guess it wouldn't have happened had we still been charting on paper, then there wouldn't be a trail.

After today I'll never complain about my job again. At least I still have one, wasn't too sure if I did earlier in the day.

So glad it all worked out J. Hugs to you my dear. :)

Well, it's only three days off work, but I'll be working at home. Spring cleaning time, and time to paint, again. Bella is coming this summer. I want the house to look good when she gets here. :)

Bella is coming? Oh, now that's gonna be a good time for all I'm sure! We can't wait for the pics.

She was supposed to come last year, but we both started new jobs, and it just wasn't a good time. Her tickets (which she bought last year) expire this year, so she has no choice now. Her and Miss E are coming to visit me. I can't wait.

We'll post tons of pictures on AMHD. I'm sure that most of them will include a beer in our hands. ;)

So that's one down, a lot more to go. Hint, hint. When are you going to visit? Bring Synn. I'll get Bella, and a few other girls, and we'll have a girls party time Canadian style. :)

But one day we will meet in person. I promise you! Also, we have to see Synn, and soon. I want to hold that baby! :)

I don't have a passport, for me OR the baby. And I didn't win the MegaMillions jackpot tonight, so money is a little tight for me. I have lots of extra space for people to crash here, though! You all can come visit me!

Thanks Alty! Argh! I'd love to go to Canada.

I feel for you Dani.

Mine is in the garage doing what I call "tinkering", which is code for "making a big mess while accomplishing nothing".

My son is playing xbox, and my daughter is doing crafts, and begging me to play barbies with her later. Um... I really can't get my head into barbies today. Usually I can go to that level, play my little arse off, and have a blast. But today, just not in a barbie place. Too much else on my mind. I really need more than 24 hours in a day, more money than I make so I can get all the things I need done, done. Also, a maid wouldn't hurt. Just saying. :)

DaniCalifornia
Apr 1, 2012, 04:20 PM

I'm glad I have you folks to distract me..

Alty
Apr 1, 2012, 04:28 PM
We have tons of barbies. Come on over! We can dress them up, do their hair, they can lounge around in the castle that's mortgage free that I made for them. Wait. Okay, now I want to kill the little buggers! I build them a house, buy them furniture, clothes, friends, even a van and a camper! They have perfect bodies, hair, and want for nothing.

I never want to play with them again! I think they're using me! :(

Barbies, ugg I hate those things. E never gets into those. I don't think they are healthy for a little girls sense of self image... I don't know though, maybe I am way off. I loved barbies when I was little. I would spend hours in my play room with my barbies. But, my barbies all had jobs, got married, had kids, but still worked. They made their own clothes (okay, I made them for them, but still). I was ahead of my time. ;)

Yes I do take BP meds, but apparently they aren't working. Doc gave me some different meds to help, but they are making me sick. :(

I have to share this because it made me giggle.

At least once a week I get a call, call display shows Private name, private number. It's always an Indian guy telling me that he works for Telus, and that I have a virus on my computer. We all know this is a scam, but apparently these scammers haven't figured out that the word is out, that we all know.

Anyway, this was the conversation.

Idiot guy: Hello sir or madam, my name is Habish from telus and we're calling to inform you that you have a virus on your computer (insert heavy Indian accent).

Me: I have a virus? How do you know? Who gave you access to my computer?

IG: No one gave us access, it's a virus on Windows.

Me: I have a Mac.

IG: Um... you don't use Windows?

Me: No (lying through my teeth).

IG: Oh, well you have a virus on your Mac.

Me: How do you know this? You'd have to have access to my computer to know this, so I ask again, who allowed you access?

IG: We don't have access, but we need to have access to fix it.

Me: You're not answering my question. How do you know I have a virus unless you have access to my computer?

IG: Um... we just know.

Me: Do you have access to a computer?

IG: Yes, of course.

Me: Google "computer scams", you guys are on the list.

IG: We don't scam people.

Me: Then why are you hiding your phone number, why are you not able to tell me how you know I have a virus, and why are you not answering my questions?

IG: We're not a scam.

Me: Get a real job. Playing dumb won't help you when you're arrested.

IG: We're not a scam.

Me: Ya right, and I'm a virgin. Have a good day.

:)

We have a do not call registry too, but you have to have the phone number in order to stop the calls, and these guys always block their calls. :(

But it is fun to toy with them. That idiot had no idea that a woman was going to squish him like a bug when he called. Made me feel pretty darn good. :)

LOL! Considering the fact that it actually took quite a while before he understood that my owning a Mac (which I don't) means that I don't use windows (and he's supposedly a computer tech!), I have a feeling that the C-64 comment would go right over his wee head. So would the German. ;)
