Dear Taxexpert:
I am an J-1 holder and doing research at a university in US now. I came here in 29th Oct. 2004. But this year, the FICA withheld in my wages. I want to know if I should pay this taxes or not? Thanks!
Best,

I believe that FICA taxes became due in Oct 2006.
Was FICA withheld for the entire year?

This is your 3rd year on J1. You are now a resident (for 2006) and FICA makes sense (unless you meet the more general exception for students).
