My dining room light flickers on and off but remains to turn back on what's wrong with the light?

Could be a loose wire but probably a bad wall switch. Is it on a dimmer?

I agree but would benefit if you can explain this better "remains to turn back on "

Perhaps you mean "refuses to turn back on"?
