Atrocious hats worn by celebrities. What can I say... people had the nerve to wear these in public?
Starting with Princess Beatrice at the royal wedding.
My wife had some colorful language for it... I was at a loss for words.
Or is there a hidden purpose that I am missing.

Pssst she isn't a celeb ;)
But yes, just like her mother she has appalling taste.

Well, I'm not so sure what's worse... that someone actually had the poor taste or nerve to wear that in puiblic... or that someone created it in the first place.
Looks like a wall ornament that would be stuccoed to a wall of a building.
Wonder if anyone at all thinks it was nice. I think its clear she didn't seek any advice before she got it.

Can't stand that hat, but worse is her makeup and her hair. Did she just get out of bed from an all night drink fest, put the hat on, leave her sleep streaked makeup from the night before, and go to the wedding?
She looks like she just crawled out of a hole.
Don't even get me started on the old lady outfit. ;)

She was going for the wealthy zombie with no taste look. I think so anyway.

She got the zombie with no taste look down pat, but the wealthy part, she missed the mark. She looked like she went to a thrift store, got her "dress" or whatever that was, and then made a hat at home to match the dress.
But then, most of the guests looked frumpy. I can't really pick on her alone. ;)

Most definitely she wasn't alone with "the stupid thing on your head" look. I just pegged her as the worst offender by my own standards.

To me it actually looks like some sort of contraceptive device. But I have a very good imagination. ;)
There was another lady that wore this monstrosity that looked like a vagina with a flower in the middle. Again, I have a great imagination. ;)
Then there was the lady that decided to thwart the Queen and not wear a hat, even though it was specifically stated on the invite that hats must be worn. Tsk, tsk.
Frankly, I didn't see one hat that said to me "OMG! I must have that".
I would have shown up in a baseball cap, and I think I would have been one of the best dressed there. ;)
I do have to add. Kate's dress was gorgeous. It suited her wonderfully, and it was very tasteful. Much better then Diana's dress. :)

I was sooooooooooooooooooo relieved that her dress wasn't the usual strapless thing that has gotten to be so popular. I was so happy to see lace sleeves and a V-neckline. And a short train. Diana's dress and 25-foot train were like something from a Disney cartoon.

Lip readers had been hired by news stations to interpret what people (Will and Harry at the altar, Kate and Will at various times) were saying to each other. Before the ceremony, the Queen leaned over to mutter something to her husband. Wish I could have read her lips.

I don't hate the strapless gowns, after all, mine was strapless, but I have to say that Kate's dress was befitting a ceremony for a princess. It was classy, elegant, not too outlandish, very well made. I loved it. Not too many people could have pulled it off. She has the perfect figure for a dress like that.
Diana's dress was just too poofy. I didn't like it back then, and I hate it even more now. It was just too outlandish, and didn't suit her at all.

Well, it was an okay dress for the time. Way out of date now. I loved it though. But, if I were getting married today, I'd go for something like Kate's. Maybe not as demur, because that's not my style, but something more sleek. I also loved the lace.

I just don't get the hat thing. I understand that the Queen likes hat, but to me hats are just an excuse not to brush your hair. ;)
Rod has always loved hats. Not the ones at this wedding, but a nice simple hat on a woman, he loves it. Every once in a while I'll try on hats, and he always begs me to buy one.
Thing is, where would I wear it? I doubt dollarama will allow me to wear one. Driving the kids to school really doesn't require a fancy hat. The only time I could see a hat being useful is while doing gardening, and then it would be a different kind of hat.
Also, I have a fat head. I can't find hats that fit. Okay, to be fair, it's not my head, but my thick hair, but still, they don't fit.
I'll stick to a ponytail. That's about as fancy as this girl gets. :)

Well I googled and googled and googled, and all I could find about hats is that they're worn because that's the style for the social elite in England. Apparently an outfit just isn't complete without a hat.

There are hats, and there are fascinators. The fascinators are the feathery, poofy things often with netting and lace and clipped on usually to the side (or rarely to the top) of the head. Beatrice's thing was a hat.

Besides, all males are into fashion. A suit bought in 1950 can be worn in 2011 without anyone knowing the difference. See? Our fashions are so well-considered, they last for decades. Put THAT in your fascinator and smoke it.

I don't smoke.
Note the width of lapels on men's suits, the fabric preferences, the width of the pants and ties, the color of the shirt, the type of shoes. Men's fashions change, but oh so subtly. Nowadays, the tie is pulled open and hanging, the shirt is unbuttoned a bit down from the neck ("I'm so casual and laid-back"), the pants may be jeans, a suit jacket or sport coat is added as an afterthought, and the shoes are often what guys wear while playing basketball.

Hey, nobody notices that stuff - other than a bunch of females. And what the hell is a "fabric preference"? Don't use jargon. Say what you mean. Geez.
Anyway, men's suits are made from CLOTH which comes from lambs or sheep or something. No big deal.

The suit fabric really does make the suit, literally and figuratively -- linen, polyester, wool, cotton, tweed, herringbone, flannel, silk, poplin, seersucker, and cashmere.
Every man needs a woman in his life to dress him properly.

But, I will agree that men need women to do a lot of stuff - not only dress them. We can start with civilize us, as we come back from the hunt all bloody and streaked with sweat from tracking and killing the aurochs. Then the ladies make gravy and we all have a go at the communal pot and chow down.

Well, we all know the written word makes it hard to decipher what's tongue-in-cheek, and what's just rude. If it wasn't meant to be rude, then I do apologize to Athos.
However, his post to me wasn't called for. To tell me that I'm the definition of missing the point, that was rude, at least to me, and since the post was directed at me, how I interpret it does matter.
I was having a good time until some of Athos's posts. Again, maybe it's just his brand of humor that I find distasteful. If no one else has a problem with it, then I'll bow out so Athos can continue. Personally, the fun has gone out of it for me.
