I took out the black cartige and now it won't print in color.

Most printers won't print unless both cartridges are in place. Of course if you had told us the make and model of your printer we might be able to be more specific.

Just found the earlier thread and merged them. Yes you need both cartridges in place.

I also have a HP printer and am certified in printer repair. You need to go to printer properties and check the box for print only in color. I do this all the time and it works for me.
