Deep in the forest was found the body of a man who was wearing only swimming trunks, snorkel and facemask. The nearest lake was 8 miles away and the sea was 100 miles away. How had he died?
I'm new at this, so we'll see how it goes. I think it is a lot easier than Morgaine's train puzzle :)

Ok, possible scenario.
The man went at night to do some diving we don't want to know why. He flew over in a plane/helicopter/etc and jumped, thinking he was going to 'land' in the water, but instead, fell in the forest.
Is that it? :)

Two things:
Now you know what it's like from this side. LOL. It can be very difficult answering things, figuring out how literally to take it, how they mean it isn't how you took it, will it be misleading. Then the questions out of the blue that you never thought about and are not sure are even relevant, but they might be. Some are obvious and easy, but some I think about for a long time.
But you also see how terribly amusing it can be. :D
As for finishing before Morgaine gets there, you have to remember Morgaine doesn't do mornings. (I don't know where you're at, but the time you posted this was morning for me. I've also had a bad day thus far and didn't get on here until later than usual.)
I copied everything into a Wordpad file (trying to not really pay attention to what I was copying), and I'm going to try going back and seeing what I can come up with. But I do have other things I need to get done for the moment, so it will be a little while. But Unky's asleep, Adam never posts this late... I should be safe for the moment. ;)

I'll throw a bunch out, try to force myself to go get my stuff none, and pop back in later.
He was in the lake prior to being in the plane, right?
And he was in the forest after being on the plane?
Is it relevant that the sea is 100 miles away?
Did someone in the plane just spot him in the water while flying over?
Was this plane a rescue vehicle?
Even if not, did someone in the plane rescue him?
Did he enter the plane under his own power?
You never answered this: Did he die of some kind of suffocation/lack of oxygen?
Was he dead before he was on the plane?
Did he die on the plane?
Did he die after arriving at the forest?
Did the plane land in the forest? (Guess that would be difficult.)
Did the plane crash in the forest?
Is the plane in the forest at this point?
Are there any other humans in the near vicinity (in the forest), dead or alive?

That's the way I was thinking of it. That's what makes answering a little confusing - how technical do you get?
morgaine300

Yes, you see it can be difficult answering. Because you don't even know what I might have been thinking by a rescue vehicle. :p (I was thinking including something that could do more than rescues, something like the Coast Guard, but that's a boat. Or maybe they do have small planes too.)
OK, I don't know if I can form this into a yes or no to clear this up. It provides an emergency service, but is not a "rescue" vehicle.
We know it's at least sort of a plane, we know it does emergencies, it obviously also does or can do rescues or you wouldn't have answered yes (even if technically incorrect). Is it relevant for us to get more technical than this?
I really don't mind asking more questions about it. Though I have other things running through my mind at the moment. (As soon as I review some answers again.)

Was the man's occupation relevant?
Let's clear this up:
It's relevant that they are a distance from any body of water. But it's not relevant that the lake is specifically 8 miles away? (Going off how you answered Unky's question.)
Was his death an accident?
Did he take his own life?
Did the plane intend on flying to the forest?
Was the man on the plane before he was in the water? (i.e. like he ended up back on the plane again)
Did he know any of the people on the plane?
Did he work with the people on the plane?
Was it the "fall" into the forest that killed him?
Was he actually snorkeling in the lake? Did he intend to snorkel in the lake?
When Unky asked if he got on the plane, you said technically no.
Did you mean technically not really a plane? Did you mean technically he didn't "get on" said plane?
Hmm. He didn't climb a ladder. He wasn't captured. He wasn't tied to the plane. They didn't rescue him. But he didn't get on the plane under his own power. Weird. Something to seriously consider. (I'm sure you're having a good chuckle.)
Let's clear up another one:

So, however he got on the plane, he was noticed?

Just as a note... when Unky asked "Did he climb on the plane unnoticed..."
If the man didn't climb on the plane, especially considering he wasn't noticed, that's a good place to say an assumption was made. i.e. It was never established that he climbed on the plane to begin with, so the question can't work. It's especially confusing if one part of the question is incorrect and the other part is correct.

I have an idea, but I don't know how it would actually work cause I don't know enough about it, so my explanation is not going to be very technical:
The plane somehow has maybe like something attached like a huge tank sort of thing. (Ha - I'm thinking of the big whale tank in Star Trek IV. :D) And somehow they swoop over or hover over the water and get the tank thingy full of water. And the snorkler happened to be there and got scooped up with the water. Then the water gets dumped on the forest fire and he went with it.

I didn't know about them, so obviously that doesn't make any difference. I knew there was stuff like it, but certainly not specifics. I tried to google it right before I posted that answer and I only read about planes dropping some red stuff, and the water coming from these special helicopters, not planes. But I thought what the heck, it sounds good.
I'd actually thought a long time ago about getting caught in a rope or net or something like that, but couldn't make any sense of what the plane was doing. I was so busy concentrating on the stupid plane that I missed the obvious question of the forest being on fire.

Just for the heck of it, for anyone who wants to jump on it, this is lateral thinking, but is not a yes or no kind. You just have to think about it and find a solution.
You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus
* An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
* An old friend who once saved your life.
* The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Knowing that there can only be one passenger in your car, whom would you choose?

I would do one again, but I did feel uncomfortable with some of it. I just wanted to do it right, and was surprised at the difference the wording in a question could make as to how comfortable I was with an answer. Ah, really, you can only do the best you can do. The wording can be tricky yes. Sometimes I stare at something for quite some time, trying to see if it's true exactly as stated. I take them in context of questions around them, which can tell me what they might be getting at. And I qualify answers a lot. There's occasions when I'm convinced someone's going to kill me over an answer once they get it solved.
I'm surprised you haven't solved one before. I thought you were the queen of these games. :D
Uh, not really. I've "hosted" more often. I haven't tried solving that many, which is why I wanted to do it. I know how to ask questions, but that doesn't mean the right thing is going to pop in my head. There's also been plenty of times when I've had a good idea, or been close, but someone else solves it.

That's exactly it. Well, almost - the friend drives the old lady to the hospital. Now this one I solved fairly quickly. I didn't want to give up the perfect partner either. ;)

Darn I missed that last one, I figured it out before I got to the end of this thread but then it was answered. I will try and come up with one in another thread so Unky can still answer this one. I will post a link once I do.

Don't tell me that the plane was supposed to be throwing water on the burning forest and thus took water from the lake. But something unexpected happened; the plane took a diver (our dead man) in its water tank/reservoir by mistake with his suit and threw him over the burning fire!
Poor diver :(
I guess that he could have died in the plane itself perhaps, because with a snorkel, one cannot stay underwater for long... When morgaine asked for the forest fire, all the things fitted.
Ok, off to the next one then.
PS. I once got a mail with that same very question about the 3 people under the bus stop. I didn't answer but scrolled down to see what was it... and by the time I saw your question, I have already forgotten lol :p

For anyone still reading this thread, new one here:

(And sorry, I posted it before I knew jm had another thread going. I didn't recognize "it doesn't add up" as being one of these.)

I also just realized from reading it, that it appears nowhere near solved. So we can finish it first, and I'll put the link in to this when it's done. (Unless someone wants to to try to do two at once - fine by me.)
