Got to love Florida!
My daughter called me last night about 9:30 and she said, "Don't open the front door"!
Went to look out the windows on the front door, as she is standing in the street, and there is a little, baby alligator on the front porch. This one was only about a foot long. (had one a few years ago about 3 feet long)
She wasn't so worried about this one, but scared the mother might be about. Her boyfriend scared it off into the front garden... :)

Holy moly doula!
Would they be dangerous at that age,I can imagine a bite would still hurt like hell.
DoulaLC
Aug 15, 2010, 07:47 AM
They could have course bite you, and the possibility of infection would be a concern too. We get some good sized ones in the nearby park. Most often just sunning themselves on the side of the water and they usually take off if someone gets too close. Rule of thumb in Florida... if there is water, expect an alligator to be in it!
Every now and then you hear of one being in someone's swimming pool, and they can be seen on golf courses sometimes too. Talk about a water hazard when playing a round of golf!
Here's a clip of a small one in a parking lot and one that had been wandering a neighborhood:

KP, your son sounds adorable! And Alty you're right, you little girl is gorgeous. She will not only cause you many sleepless nights, but a few boys too! J will come around, he's already got a good head on his shoulders, if only he can stop hitting his little sis :p But he seems to be very caring, and loving, a great combo.
My little rug rat, we'll that's a totally different story. She is possibly the spawn of Satan. She is smart, way too smart for a 3 year old. And she remembers EVERYTHING. She is funny as hell in that smart mouth kind of way. Sometimes you don't know if you want to punish her for life or laugh your butt off. And with HUGE blue eyes, blond hair, and a voice that melts your heart, it's needless to say she gets away with way more then she should. Especially when Papa is around.

Yum! One of the things I was going to do this summer was more cooking. Now school has started back up, but I am determined to make the time to experiment a bit, at least on the weekends.
How do you like using the bread machine?
Aurora_Bell
Aug 16, 2010, 06:41 PM
Well it was my first time, and it was VERY easy. I kind of felt like I was cheating. I over cooked the bread just a touch, so the crust is probably a little darker than it was supposed to be, but the bread on the inside is awesome. I am going to make home made stew tomorrow for supper, so the bread will do just fine.
Have you used the bread machine before?
DoulaLC
Aug 16, 2010, 06:59 PM
No, I have looked at them but wasn't sure if they would be more work than just making it myself! Wanted to get some opinions from those who have them to decide if I want to purchase one or not.
The bread with stew sounds wonderful!

Aug 16, 2010, 07:12 PM
Well I had an actual sour dough kit, so all I had to do was put the water in the pan, pour the mix over top of it, poke a hole in the flour and add the package of yeast. 2 hours later I had a loaf of bread!

Can you find some way to improvise? Like, place a furniture to hide this part of the wall? Of course, since I don't know how you did the previous ones, or how you want it to seem, or how much exactly is required...
Good luck anyway Red :)

A year later, saved up another $100 marched myself into the parlor again, but this time decided on Chinese characters for the word "Unity". Umm you, wish I gave those more thought.

Thanks Q. I'm actually excited about it. Not the surgery, but feeling better afterwards. I'm hoping this does the trick, at least partially, so that I can feel like me again. :)
Sadly there's nothing they can do about the IBS, but this surgery should put a little less strain on that part, so it may help a bit with that as well.

Well hello all!
We are having a great vacation road trip. Presently in Vail Colorado, rained all day but the ladies managed to shop and I now know the true meaning of 'mule' it (me) carries all the 'goods' and the money, exhasted... really.
Painted desert was fantastic, the Grand Canyon is a great big hole... really big! Took two jeep tours, helicopter ride and a hot air balloon ride (first one), great. The Rockie Mountains are terrific and extreemly beautiful.
All is well but tired. We will be back on Monday, I think I have lost track of all time.
Next stop is La Vista, Neb and then home, about 16 more hours of driving yet to go.
Miss you all, I am on the Hampton Inn computer and I am only allowed ten minutes... gotta go... later :)

We did have a great time thank you all for the asking.
We saw some amazing sites. It was about time, lived here all my life and only saw pictures of some of this. It is an amazing country and the people were very interesting and polite everywhere we went.
I'll get the pictures up within the next few days, we are still unpacking and plan to rest from the trip a little. And tomorrow I have to deal with all the work that is awaiting me and catch up.
Marta's car will need detailing and the bugs on the front are so thick that you can't tell the paint color... :)
Good to be back though, no place like home. And all we forgot to do was ask my daughter to water the plants, lost a few, like the orchards... :(
Thanks again, nice to missed.

Hey Bella. Sorry I disappeared on you last night, I got caught up in a thread where the OP was really mean to Kit. It was totally unwarranted.
So I got woken up this morning at 7:30 am (yes I was still sleeping) by the phone ringing. I decided to let the machine pick it up because I was groggy and didn't feel like running to the kitchen to answer it.
So the person leaves a message and now my blood is boiling.
Background;
Two weeks ago we had to get a pay day loan from money mart. We borrowed $600 and had every intention of paying it back the following week. Well the poo hit the fan, some unexpected expenses came up, so we could only pay a few hundred dollars back, but we made arrangements to make another payment yesterday and than a final payment next week. They accepted.
If anyone has ever talked to me on the phone you know that I don't answer calls that show up on call display as Unknown name, Unknown number, or 1-800 numbers. If it's important they can leave a message and I'll call back. If they don't leave a message, well they obviously don't want to talk to me that badly, or they're selling something.
So the last few days I've been getting calls from a 1-877 number, Unknown name. I let the machine pick it up and they never leave a message.
Well this morning they did. Here's the message word for word;
"Okay enough is enough, this is Carla from money marts head office. We've been calling you nonstop but you never call us back. So here's the thing, this is going to be your last chance, your final opportunity to contact us, phone number given. Grab a pen, write this down, call us, NOW! Phone number given. This is your last chance. "
Here's the thing, we were just at money mart yesterday and made a payment, talked to the manager, told him that we're coming again next week and were told that that's fine.
So I'm fuming, angry, get up, make a pot of coffee, grab the phone, calm down, and I'm about to call Carla when the phone rings again. Here's the conversation;
Me: Hello.
Lady that barely speaks English (will be known as Lady); Hello, this is Lady from money mart, can I speak to R please.
Me: He's at work.
Lady: Can you please talk to him and tell him he has to call us back. He was supposed to make a payment on the 26th, today is the 27th.
Me: Don't you people talk to each other or check your records? I went with him to money mart yesterday and watched him make a payment, and he talked to the manager. When we left we were told everything was fine, but today I get a very rude call from Carla at head office and now you're calling claiming that we haven't even made a payment. What the hell is going on?
Lady: I am looking at our records right now and it's not showing that you made a payment, so please talk to R and ask him to call us otherwise this will go to collections.
Me: Lady, I was with him when we went to MM, I saw him make the payment, he has a receipt for the payment, and you're telling me that your records don't show it? This has me very concerned. How many times have we paid something and your records show that we haven't?
Lady: He didn't go to MM yesterday.
Me: Yes, he did. I was with him, my kids were with him, and a friend of ours was with him. I saw him make a payment. We have the receipt showing that he did.
Lady: Oh.
Me: This has me very upset. I don't appreciate being called by a very rude person from head office telling me this is my last chance, saying we never return the calls. She's never left a message until now, and I don't answer calls from 1-800 numbers. Now you call and say we haven't followed our agreement when it's very clear that we're the only ones following it and you people don't seem to talk to each other or keep accurate records, but you have no problem calling us to instill fear when we've done everything we promised we'd do.
You have to get this straightened out and I better not be getting any more calls threatening me that it's my last chance when I was never given a first chance and didn't need any chances period because we've done everything we're supposed to do.
Lady: I'm sorry ma'am. I'll check on this and get back to you.
Me: You do that. Good bye.
I am so mad I could spit nails.
Sorry, just had to share so that I don't explode. ;)
Should I call Carla back? Dog knows Lady won't be contacting her to tell her that they're in the wrong.

Call and get their fax number. Along with a written letter saying what you may... fax a copy of your receipt and the name of the person at the location where you made the payment.
This is their tactic, and it sucks! But when you do this along with the date that you will make the next payments it should get them off your backs.

Oh I would most definitely call Carla back. Lady obviously called from a call center in an unknown land, and call centers and stores are very rarely on the same page.
I had a similar experience, well actually two of them, one with a HBC credit card, that was sent to me in the mail, and never used, all of a sudden I am being charged $65 and it's being sent to collections. I had to call my bank, and the manager of HBC credit cards, plus the manager of the collection agency that was harassing me. It was kind of funny, because they were all blaming each other.
Another time was with a water bill that was truthfully oaid EXTREMELY late, but paid none the less, the guy calling refused to believe I paid, saying he delt with people like me all the time and he wasn't born yesterday. Finally he called the H2O company and they verified that the payment was made.
So, yes call Carla, and have the receipt with you. It should have the agent who took the payments name as well as a transaction number for you to fall back on.
I am heading out to the camp, I'll be back on Sunday. Does R work nights this week coming, and is the other R leaving this week? He better, he is really putting a cramp in my style, but saving me loads in long distance LOL.
Call you Sunday Alty.

It really is just a note since I'm here almost everyday and it will remind me rather than making a note somewhere and losing it

Hi all.
I called the number Carla left, asked to speak to Carla, was told that Carla isn't available and that she (the person that answered) could help me.
I told her my name, and R's (because he's the one that took out the loan) and told her I was very upset about the call from Carla, and the call from Lady, and the fact that we did make a payment, have never missed one, and we're getting these kinds of calls.
I told her I was very angry at the way they handled this and the fact that they obviously don't keep very accurate records.
She apologized and asked to hear the message Carla had left. I played it for her, she was shocked. She apologized again.
I told them that they had better not call again unless they actually had something to complain about, and if that ever happened Carla better learn to be more polite or they won't be getting any more of our business.
She apologized over and over again and said she'd speak to her manager about Carla.
I'm still mad, but at least they know it and they know they're at fault here, not us.
On a side note, Indy came downstairs again today. He can get down the stairs but can't get back up, so sooner or later he has to go potty and just sits downstairs barking for someone to carry him up the stairs. I can't, he's too heavy. R isn't home. So Indy crapped all over the basement and peed a river under my computer table. He's covered in poo and pee and every time I try to clean him up he snaps at me, so right now he's laying by my feet, laying in his own urine and poo and there's nothing I can do about it.
Today is a very bad day. :(

Sorry about Indy. I have to say that I am glad that you made the call. However I think that she won't do anything formal in the way of a complaint about Carla Alty. These companies do business this way very similar to collection companies. She wanted to make you feel better I think.

Of course I remember you Stringer. Sorry that I haven't been cheerful, I just feel utterly defeated today.
I'm the one that takes care of everything around here. R is great, he's a good man, but when it comes to running the house, taking care of the kids and animals, it's all on me. I can't do everything anymore. I can't be everywhere, and all of this stuff going on today just brings all that home. It's been a mountain waiting to fall and bury me, and today is the day it fell.
I'm looking at my 15 year old dog thinking that it's long past time to put him to sleep (not because he peed and pooed in my house, but because he's suffering, he's old, and he isn't enjoying this any more than I am), but I can't afford to.
The kids go back to school on Monday. I have half their school supplies bought, I can't afford the other half. It was Syd's birthday yesterday, I got her a coloring book and a little stuffed hamster. They weren't expensive, but even those two small things were more than we can afford.
I'm tired of being broke all the time, not having enough money to even take my kids to McDonalds as a special treat. What really burns my hide is that it doesn't have to be this way. We could be out of debt if R's sister would just give us our inheritance. She finally finished renovating R's moms house, and she had it on the marked for over 2 months at way above market price. They just took it off the market so now it looks like it will be another year (if we're lucky) before we can even hope to get what is rightfully ours. I say hope because it's not certain that she'll actually do the right and legal thing. She's rich, and she's willing to screw over anyone so she can get richer. In the meantime, I do without as much as I can (including my medication) so that my kids can get a coloring book and a small stuffed animal for their birthday. :(
I just want to curl into a ball and cry my eyes out, but I can't.
Sorry to load this all out here, but I can't keep it bottled up inside anymore. Today is the day that broke me. It's the final straw.

LOL! I hope Carla gains 50. ;)
It's not the Carla thing, that was just the final straw. Maybe if I vented more these things wouldn't build up to this point, but believe it or not, I tend to keep my problems to myself, until I hit a breaking point.
Indy is done. He's been on his last legs for longer than he should have to be, but I can't spend money to euthanize him when my kids need back to school supplies, dental work, birthday gifts. I know, maybe it's selfish, but I have to have priorities right now. Indy isn't in pain, so that's something, but I'm not being a very good fur baby mom. I feel horrible about it because I know it's time. It's been time for a long time, but I can't afford to do it right now.
I need to win the lottery, or rob a bank. I think the lottery is more likely than turning to a life of crime, but I tell you, if I knew I could get away with it, at this point it's something to consider. I'm that desperate.
We shouldn't be having all these money issues. R makes a good living, but for some reason we're always playing catch up, not even living pay cheque to pay cheque. I don't know why. We don't spend a lot of money, we hardly ever go out to eat, we don't have luxuries, we both have older cars that are paid for. I just don't get it. Where is the money going? Why are we always behind?
I'm just stressed, and it's not good.
Now, about the coconuts. What are your thoughts? ;)

All have a common theme.
1. they all say 'what could possibly go wrong'
2. 'my gut said don't do it,I still did'
3. I'm sorry I got caught and the grief I caused my family.
Not one of them ever say,I'm sorry about the drugs and damage I did to the people who took them.

Oh my sweet, you could never ever be forgotten. You are always in my thoughts, and that's the plain simple truth.
I often think of our castle days, you and me against the duck, making plans for a wonderful meal only to have the duck outsmart us and get away, even thought she only had two tail feathers left.
Our antics with the whip, your jokes, your wonderful personality which shines through in every single post. You dear are a gem, and you shine. You could never ever be forgotten.
If I won the lottery I'd have an AMHD party. I'd rent a hall, and make all of you come to Canada. Of course I'd pay for the flight, the hall, the food, you name it. We'd go all out, either a formal ball, or a big BBQ bash. I'd give you all a taste of this beautiful country, and I'd even rent a polar bear so that Sneezy could finally get his wish. ;)
I love you all more than you could possibly know. You keep me grounded, you all make me smile even when all I want to do is cry. I can't thank you enough for that.
Man I'm being mushy today. Someone give me an upper!

Ya, I'm an old soul.
I grew up with two parents that loved everything from Meat loaf (the singer, not the dish) to classical music. My favorite musical genre that my parents inflicted on me was the forest sounds. We'd come over for dinner, R and I, on Sundays and my dad always had to have a CD playing in the background. I remember sitting at the table eating roast to the sound of frogs farting in the forest. :p
My personal fav was ABBA. I knew all the songs by heart. I still do.

What an exhausting week end. So Friday around 4:30 5ish we get to the camp, my mom and dad were out there too, so me and my mom and E and Lady decided to go for a walk. We just cracked a beer, and headed down the back trail. I let Lady off her leash and she had a good run. Next thing I know I hear this horrible thrashing in the woods. I was like what the heck did she catch, figuring it was a rabbit or a worse, a skunk.
She comes running out of the bush, and runs right back in, I caught a glimpse of white on her face, I thought she caught a cat or something, I call her out and out she slinks with a mug full of quills. They were in her gums, her toung, her chest, all over her nose, in her eye brows, and on her paws.
Had to rush her to the emerg vet which was about hour from the camp. Along the way my moms cell phone started ringing. She has horrible reception, so the guy on the other end was cutting out. I caught: "This is _____ from NS Power___, do you have a camp_______?" I was like I have no idea what you are saying, I can't hear you at all. My mom's yelling at me in the back ground to hang up, don't give this guy any personal info, blah, blah, blah. Well The curiosity got the better of me, and I called him back from my cell, and he was like "I found your (actually my MOM'S!!) wallet on the side of the road. Your visa's were all over the place, your money, your ID, everything! Do you guys have a camp out at blankity-blank lake?" Just so happened he new people who camped out there too, and was on his way out there!!
Well $400 later, Lady comes out of emergency, wagging her tail and happy to be quill free. At least she got her nails cut and her teeth checked while she was under. The funny thing?
This is her second time in a month that she got hit by a porcupine! A least the last time it only 5 quills, and I was able to pull them all out.
Never been so happy to be home!

RED! I like your thinking! Things happen like this to me all the time. I go through a string of bad luck, and then everything kind of evens out for a bit.
But I am SO down with going to Ireland. I am totally going to fake the Irish accent. I'll smuggle you in Alty. You said you were flexible right?

Plus, you just remodeled. I'm sure you want to show it off. I really would love to visit Ireland - after all I am part Irish. My mom's mother was born there.
Well, I'm sure your daughters going to college is a mixed blessing. I went 500 miles away from home. The first semester I'd call my mom at least once a week feeling all sad for being away. I'd be studying late into the night, not noticing the time, and sometimes would call at 2 am or so. She said I gave her heart attacks when I did that. :o By the second semester, I had settled in and my mom had become used to not having a kid at home any more.

Ill still have ciara at home and a hoard of animals to care for,and brendan is just next door,so all in it won't be so bad.
Whens the wedding JLo? October?
Bella, it will all even out.
Just think of it as using up all your bad luck for the next 10 years, squashed into 3 months!

October 9. :D Carolyn's wedding is September 18. We've been busy so the time is going really fast. I am at my aunt's house in LA this weekend. She's working on my dress. Just a few final adjustments, and then she's ready to start the beading. She won't need me to try it on again until a week or two before the wedding, just to be sure I haven't changed sizes at all. It's so pretty.

Red, I have to be smuggled, I don't have a passport. Even when I do have a passport I have issues because I'm not a Canadian citizen, but I live here.
Leaving usually isn't a problem, but coming back is.
Sigh. I wish I could travel. I'd settle for being able to get into the States. ;)

I don't feel nervous at all, but I am excited. We get back from the honeymoon near the end of October, and then the holidays are already upon us. I also will be gearing up for my busy season. By December, I'm working 60 hours a week usually... and between January and April 15, it steadily increases until I get up to 80 hours a week. So, we are having as much fun as possible now!

I'm so lucky :)
Last night I was out exploring the town, when I decided to go watch scott pilgrim vs the world (great film, go see it, especially if you like your games)
Anyhoo, came out of the cinema , its dark and I have no idea in which direction home is (I recently moved and haven't had time to explore which is what I was doing)
So I'm hesitant to ask the stoned and drunk people about town at that time and I see an ambulance parked outside a pub across the road and the ambulance driver is getting back in,
So I nip over and ask if she can point me in the direction of 'home'
She says yeah sure the hospitals near there ill drop you off,
So I get in and get a lift home :D

My son once phoned me at 4am to ask me what his blood group was. That very nearly did give me a heart attack. Long story short - him and his mate were drunk, mate got hurt (busted nose) , drunken son thought he could somehow be heroic and offer the hospital his own blood for his pal. Sheesh!

I think they will. He's a great guy and you know how wonderful she is. He has a 2 1/2 year old son (widowed), so Carolyn is jumping right into motherhood.
Thanks, Cat. You made my day. I am going to be a bridesmaid in Carolyn's wedding. I'll send you and Cats a picture in a couple of weeks. After all, you should know what your daughter looked like. ;)

That's funny (now) - I can imagine the heart attack. I'd call my mom for things like... I'm writing an essay and I can't think of the right word. Well, I did that a few times, until she asked me to stop scaring her.

OK fine, she was in her late 30's early 40's kind of too old for me, plus the paramedic uniform isn't that flattering.
That AND what I meantioned before :)
