Well, after almost killing self in the heat and an encounter I didn't want to have, I FINALLY have a valid id. Considering my last one expired last August, it was a little past due.

It has the bonus of having a REALLY bad picture. Apparently, riding a bike as fast as possible to the bmv, back home to get proof of address, and BACK to the bmv, all in less than 30 minutes and on the hottest day yet this year, makes my face REALLY red.

That's OK, I'll 'lose' it in a few months and get a replacement card.

Its not so much a surprise any more. My son told him out of excitement. The little turd. But either way it will be fun. In the end I am glad he knows. When we get there not many will be there yet. Most are coming later. I was able to tell him that.

Hi again all.

What's with the horrible hornets noise. I was watching some of the footy but the background sound is giving me a headache.

I've been earning brownie points cooking up a storm for hubby to enjoy with the footy. I made chili, pavlova, ice-cream, sorbet and chocolates. And stocked up on beer. Didn't actually make that though. Think he's appreciative but he's busy moaning at the England Goalie right now.

Well we have a market that sells fruit really cheap. I bought loads of strawberries and cherries which is how I came to make the ice-cream, pavlova, and sorbet. I had pounds of the stuff. I made some chocolates just because I fancied that, I always have the ingredients for chocolate in! ;)

I'm a bit of a freak about making stuff from scratch. I even make my own shampoo, shower gel, pretty much everything.

Never got the hang of making decent alcohol though so we buy that.

Hubby asked me if I could work out how to make fizzy water. I was in a naughty mood so said, 'fetch me a bottle of water and I'll fart in it!' *blushes*

She is not nesting... she confuses other kittens to be hers that are already 4 weeks old... she doesn't even know she is in labor... I don't have money I am on ssi... I don't know what to do for her... she goes from room to room and lays down meows for me to be there... and if I am not there... then she will delay the labor... I called the vet and they said I needed to come with 250 dollars and they don't bill... this is my baby... her life depends on me not having money... them people don't even want to give me advice over the phone... they say bring her in... I said I am disabled and don't have money... they say they can't help me... what the hell is wrong with doctors these days.. same with people money make the living live... if you don't have money and you have an emergency the human doctors around here will not see you even when you are about to die... even emergency rooms are making people like me pay 150 before you get seen... back to the question what do I do when my cat doesn't know she is going to have kittens

I don't use laundry detergent I use soapnuts.
I get these if you aren't familiar with them:

http://www.inasoapnutshell.com/index.html

They are great for the environment, don't fade colours, really good for people with allergies/chemical sensitivies (which my family has hence the making everything from scratch) and are so cheap. I buy a kg for £11 and that lasts me about 6-8 months. I used to pay about £7 for enough laundry detergent for 1 month. No idea what they would cost in the USA if they are available, but worth checking out if you're on a tight budget. They do a fine job on our laundry but don't know how good they would be on say a mechanic's overalls.

I don't buy any household cleaners either. Just use bicarb (baking soda) and white vinegar to clean. Again great for the health and environment and mega cheap. I bulk buy so keep the cost way down. For a really cheap soapy cleaner I save the ends of soap bars (I do buy unscented vegetable soap) and whizz them up in the blender with water and add a bit of lemon juice.

For shampoo and shower gel etc I bulk buy organic liquid soap-base then add various herbs, flowers, essential oils etc depending on how I want it to work out. I use coconut oil, cocoa butter and almond oil as conditioners or moisturisers. It is possible to make your own soap bases but it's quite tricky and a bit scary, as you basically have to boil fats or oils with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. If you want to be that brave you need to check out a soap-making site for proper detailed instructions.

Well that's the rough jist.

I'm not sure how much shelf-life they would have as I don't use preservatives, I just make stuff when I need it. Besides it is so easy I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't just do it themselves if they were keen on that sort of thing. But thanks for the suggestion.

Not as clever as making your own washing machine though. Now that is environmentally friendly and cheap.

OK, I want to use soapnuts, now. The biggest draw? No rinse cycle.

I found one site that sells them in the us. A 1kg bag is $40, which seems to about as cheap as you can get them, here. If I get this job, then I think I'll find a way to order them. It would completely eliminate the need to buy laundry soap, household cleaners, and maybe even soap and shampoo.

I'd like to get as low-impact and eco-friendly as possible. I'm living on my own for the first time, so this is as good a time as any to start. And, with cats, the fewer chemicals in my cleaners, the better.

Ouch they cost a lot in the USA compared to here! I did try using soap-nut solution for shampoo etc but it's very thin and I haven't found a good way to thicken it up. If you do want to go down the natural route here's a site that might give you some ideas. I'm afraid all the suppliers are in the Uk but if you pick up some tips you might find similar suppliers over the pond.

Imperfectly Natural Janey Lee Grace (http://imperfectlynatural.com/)

Do you have any health-food shop or herbalist type shops that might sell you a very small quantity of soapnuts and other things to try out? Some people love them and some hate them so it would be a shame to spend $40 if you don't like them.

If you want some specific ideas tell me your needs and I'll try to help, I don't want to bung up the whole thread with detailed instructions on every possilbe cleaning or toiletry situation and bore everyone silly lol.

Actually heath if you can't find anywhere to get your hands on a sample of soap-nuts to try, Pm me with an address I can send you some to. For obvious reasons you might not want to share your actual address, or name come to that, but just Pm me whatever name and address you want to use that they could get to you by and I'll post you a little bag. They weigh very little so I don't think the postage will break the bank even to the USA.

Unless there's some kind of USA law that prevents me sending them by post,or you would have to pay import tax or something silly?

the same site has the option to buy a sample bag of 5-6 nuts for $1. I might order a sample from them, and try to find some place cheaper to get the bulk quantity. That's just the site I found after searching for about 30 seconds.

it may very well be so much more because of import fees. I don't really know.

there aren't any health-food or herbalist stores in the county, at least not that would carry something like that. Even if I had a car, I'd probably have to drive 45-60 minutes to find one, and there's a good chance they wouldn't have soapnuts.

why not start a thread for homemade all-natural cleaning supplies. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested.

I love how this guy handled his breakup.

A marine, stationed in Iraq, recently received a “dear John” letter from his girlfriend back home. It read as follows;

Dear Ricky,

I can no longer continue our relationship. The distance between us is just too great. I must admit that I have cheated on you twice since you’ve been gone, and it’s not fair to either one of us. I’m sorry. Please return the picture of me that I sent you.

Love, Becky

The marine was crushed, so he asked his fellow marines for any pictures they could spare of their girlfriends, sisters, ex-girlfriends, cousins, etc. In the addition to the picture of Becky, Ricky included all the other pictures of the pretty gals he had collected from his buddies.

There were 57 photos in that envelope, along with this note;

Dear Becky,

I’m so sorry, but I can’t quite remember who you are. Please take your picture out of the envelope and send the rest back to me.

Thanks, Ricky

Chuckster what am I missing? What happened and why isn't it healing?

I was sure after the party last night for Marvin I would be hurting today. We were at the bar 10 hours. God love us. My bar tab was 150-something. That's no lie. In my drunking stuper I gave her a 50 tip, I think, on top of the 150. I haven't looked in the checkbook yet. I am waiting for morning. Didn't want to ruin this day stressing over it.

Then we woke up and the three of us just went out for a ride exploring whatever crossed our paths. Well we found this awesome trail to hike with some amazing rocks and I can't wait to go back. The pictures I took didn't do it justice.

Nate is my son, he is doing a fairly good act now. The young ladies were just cute and I told them I would put there picture on a site with international exposure.

It was a very serious set of breaks and we are now building up usage, went from holding 25 percent of body weight, to 50 percent this week. It really just hurts badly but is getting better.
The swelling issue is the biggest concern, going for some more Therapy this week. ( three times) So hopefully can work on it more.

I just have to sit and not do a lot, that is really worst than the pain

Sorry, guess everyone was up on my accident.

About 6 week ago, I fell off my company van ( foot was hooked on van) and it did two serious "twist" type breaks and a toe also I think. On a third cast now and just starting to put weight on it.

It just does not want to move, can't even hardly wiggle the toes, so a lot of work to do

I have it narrowed down to a few options.

The pictures suck. Blame my webcam. The shirts did NOT photograph well on the hangers.

31490
You can't tell, but this shirt is actually a pattern of black and green leaves on that 'crinkly' material that always looks pleated.

31491
This one is actually a royal purple.

31492
This one is a robin's egg blue, and doesn't usually make me look that 'lumpy'

31493
This one is bright green.

Heath, have you looked at what the workers there normally wear and how they wear it (for example: shirt hems tucked in)?

I love the print, but I think it might suit an office job a bit more. Out of the other three, I think I like the blue best with the major thought being dressing for the interview as though you were going to start right then.

Regardless of which one you choose, remember it is you and your personality and attitude that will win them over. Positive thoughts and attitude. :D

The few people I've seen going in and out have been wearing very casual clothes. Along the lines of jeans shorts and t-shirts. The ladies I talked to who work in the office were just wearing casual slacks and semi-casual tops.

I'd be able to work in all but the green shirt. It tends to need adjusted.

Living so close has a very very appealing benefits. If they do hire me and want me to start right after the interview, I can come home and chance and be back in 5-10 minutes, tops.

I've always been told to dress for every interview like you're going out for a high-class job. That it's better to be overdressed than underdressed. Even if you're just interviewing at a fast food joint, it's never a bad thing to put extra effort into your appearance.

Well, I'll take the first shirt out of the running. That leaves the other 3 to choose from.

That just leaves putting together a stone bag for luck, and remembering to wear real shoes in the morning. Flip-flops are not appropriate for a job interview.

That would get so old really fast, At least you got one off your back for a few days. I wish I could throw my dang phone here out the window. We don't have caller i.d. here so we have to answer the phone with a polite answer every time and 90% of the calls in here are the girls I work with personal calls because she doesn't get signal in her office with her cell phone. So it really sucks answering the phone thinking it might be an important call and it is her husband or mom.

OK, so, interview status report. They basically told me about the company and some basics of the job. There's a mandatory pre-employment drug screening before they even really consider you for a job, so I had to go pee in a cup.

The company makes parts for hot water heaters, so the economy hasn't really effected them any. I would be working on the factory floor, either on the manufacturing or shipping/receiving end of things. It's full time, 8.5 hours a day 5 days a week, with occasional overtime. There's a cash bonus at the beginning of each month if you had perfect attendance for the entire month prior. Employees are eligible for health care after 90 days, and a 401k plan after a year. After 1 year there's 1 week paid vacation, which goes up to 2 weeks after 3 years. All weekends are free, unless you sign up for voluntary overtime on saturdays, as are all national holidays.

I REALLY want this job. More than that, I NEED this job.

I have to admit, one of the major draws is the possibility of working with big machinery and power tools.

Hmm... nice day at school.. wait, not completely.

My General Paper (can be called English Paper as well... ) teacher went to China for some weeks, and in the meanwhile, there is another teacher replacing her. Well, she's not a good teacher so to say.

For example: What should the introduction paragraph contain? (After saying that we need a lot of practice, and so on) One on the students said that it should include some definition of the given title, an original way to start the essay, explanation of the topic and so on. Guess what was her reply. "It should introduce the essay! That's simple."

Yeah... that's a definition for "simple essays". It needs to be more detailed at this level.

Another thing, she said she got an A with two body paragraph in French. Oh my! I bet if she now took the exam, she might get zero for the structure of her French essay. I'm almost sure that all my friends dislike her too... I think she'd do better for smaller classes.

She gave us 5 topic titles today, and only 30 minutes to do one of them, while in the exam, you are given 1 h 30 min. And you should see the titles! There was one descriptive and two narrative essays. We never get those types of essays in the A-Level of Cambridge... I guess I have to endure this until my teacher comes back...

Fortunately, she'll be back in some three weeks...

Apart from that, the rest of the say was good :)

adam_89
Jun 14, 2010, 10:43 AM
Wow Unky, that has to be horrible. Sorry you have to go through it. Maybe you could get together with the other students and you all could report to a principal? Just to get a good teacher for the time being?

Unknown008
Jun 14, 2010, 10:53 AM
My friends are not of that type. My closest friends especially didn't come to school because of this very teacher. Well, there are other factors such as we do maths, physics, library and physical education today. Library and Physical Ed. Are not important, Maths, we are doing revision work, and physics, one can have a good overview of the lesson by merely looking at the notes, so the actual class doesn't become that important.

Then the others are not the type to report teachers. They'll rather not go in class, and wander somewhere in the school playing cards...

Now we have General Paper on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and you'll find out that these are the days that there are the least number of absentees.

Oh, and on a good note, there'll be an activity week next week. Since I'm not involved in any of these activities, I can stay home, doing some work, or be here ;)

Meh, doing.. I'm just doing lol. I'm okay with that. Wrote my bio exam on Friday. Feeling VERY confident with myself. I know that usually means you didn't do good, but I felt awesome with both the multiple choice and the long answer section. I was in the zone that day. And I bought a green stone that Hheath recommended and ate fish like it was going out of style on Thursday. I even had a few drinks Thursday night. I was child free!

Can you tell I'm excited?

OK, got to eat and get ready. I won't be back for about 10 hours, or so.

Well, I'm back from my first day of work. I sat beside a machine that was making plastic tubing. Every half hour, or so, I took measurements to make sure all the settings were still good. I'll be doing the same thing tomorrow. After that, they're going to slowly work through training me on other machines.

This amuses me. Maybe it'll amuse someone else, too.

I have blisters from cutting nipples off tubes. Nipples are metal pieces that are attached to the plastic tubes, and have to be cut off before botched tubes can be scrapped.

It just amuses me that removing nipples gave me blisters.
