I don't know if it will stop them from pooping on the floor. I've never had that problem. Luckily even the strays that I have taken in have all used the box with no issues.

I always just kind of followed them around, and when I saw them take the poop stance, I picked them up and stuck them in the litter box.

hheath541
May 13, 2010, 02:21 PM
That might work, except they make the most mess when I'm asleep and/or at work.

Aurora_Bell
May 13, 2010, 02:55 PM
That's a bummer. You need to get a cat sitter :p Or maybe a cat whisperer.

Like I said, I'm about ready to strangle the little sh!ts.

Aurora_Bell
May 13, 2010, 03:01 PM
But you might strangle the poop out of them! Than you would have another mess to clean up. Do they use the box while you are at home? Can you close the door to your room while you are away?

hheath541
May 13, 2010, 03:10 PM
When I'm able to watch them, the only place I see them scratching is next to the litter box.

There's really nowhere, but the bathroom, I could close them up in when I'm away. The door to my room doesn't latch and edith can open it with little effort. The extra bedroom has brand new, light-colored carpet. I'd rather they use the old, brown carpet in the other carpeted rooms, if they INSIST on using the carpet.

Hh, I wouldn't stand for that mess from kittens for more then a day, and I have had kittens at one time coming out my ears. All litter trained themselves as kittens do, of course, after being weaned and on their own. As you know, in no time at all. So how long are you going to have to put up with the mess? Have you got homes for them yet?

They're not weaned yet. Monday makes them 7 weeks old. I'm not going to send them off to new homes until they're at least 12 weeks old.

If you have suggestions on what to do to get them to stop pooping on my floor, I'm open. I want them to be the best behaved kitties possible when I find them homes.

Would a different litter make a difference?

May 13, 2010, 03:41 PM
I don't know. They don't seem to have anything against the litter. Just the litter box.

What kind of litter would you suggest? I need to buy more, anyway, so switching won't be a big deal.

I always liked mixing arm and hammor multi cat and the silica crystals.

I always liked mixing arm and hammor multi cat and the silica crystals. Yes, of course, but those kittens must be not too healthy if they are going other places instead of litter box.

Oh, I see what the problem is, hh, if there is only one litter box they won't like it. You have to have at least three. How many kittens ? Cats won't tolerate only one for say, three cats even.

hheath541
May 13, 2010, 03:57 PM
They're healthy, they just don't use the litter box. They do keep their messes confined to one corner. Maybe I can use that to my advantage.

Bella, right now I'm using tidy cats multi-cat. I do have some arm and hammer litter freshener powder stuff that I've been using for the past few days, that does WONDERS for the smell. I'd thought about trying silica litter, but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea since the kittens still eat anything they come across.

One of my neighbor's came up to visit last night. He smokes, so I gave him a saucer to use as an ashtray. After he left, spot ate the cigarette ashes before I could stop him.

Do you think silica litter would be safe if the kittens ate it?

hheath541

6 kittens.

I used to live with 9 cats, and they only had 1 litter box for the longest time, and did fine.

I'm willing to try adding another litter box to see if it'll help. I just want them to stop pooping on the floor.

Aurora_Bell
May 13, 2010, 04:20 PM
I wouldn't know how healthy it would be for them to eat it... I know my cat has eaten a piece or two. She didn't get sick but she was also an older cat. Maybe check the back of the bag to see if it has an age limit on it.

hheath541
May 13, 2010, 04:57 PM
Well, I just got back from the store. I got more litter, which I needed anyway, and a couple throw-away lasagna pans. I cleaned up the corner (AGAIN), sprayed it down with vinegar (AGAIN), and put down one of the lasagna pans for a kitten-sized litter box. Let's see if it works.

If it works, then I'll get an actual litter box for them. I'll also be able to open up the extra bedroom so they can have their playroom back.

The college I went to had a chef that made the most delicious veggie lasagna I've ever had. The chef that replaced him the next year tried to recreate it, and failed miserably.

Now I need to go look for veggie lasagna recipes. Maybe I'll be lucky and find one even I can make.

Aurora_Bell
May 13, 2010, 05:12 PM
Veggie lasagna is a tricky dish. I only made it once.

What kind of litter did you try?

hheath541
May 13, 2010, 05:14 PM
I got the only one they had in a plastic container. 9 lives. The last thing I need is a bunch of cats ripping open a bag of litter and tracking it everywhere and turning my entire living room into a litter box.

I really need to find a vacuum. Then find some way to get it home on my bike.

Aurora_Bell
May 13, 2010, 05:16 PM
Make sure to save that container for next time, than you can put the litter that comes in the bag in the container (if you want to try another brand).

hheath541
May 13, 2010, 05:21 PM
I planned on it. The first litter container I emptied got washed out several times and re-purposed to hold food, instead of getting it out of the giant bag all the time.

The other litter container is holding the litter scoop. I got tired of edith dragging it around, and the kittens were starting to try to copy her.

Aurora_Bell
May 13, 2010, 05:26 PM
Way to do the three R's! Very Green of you.

I had to spend $10 to get a container for dog food.

like i said, i'm about ready to strangle the little sh!ts.

I feel your pain.

If you put something the kitties aren't too keen on the smell of in the area you don't want them to poop that might deter them. Suggestions: Lavendar - plant or essential oil, citrus spray or oil, garlic cloves, mothballs. Some people say tumble dryer sheets work.

How about covering the carpet with plastic runner, they won't like the feel of it and it would be easier to clean if they still persist.

Some people put helium balloons in the areas they don't want the kitties to go, having something shiny bobbing about distracts them and they don't get too close.

If they insist on going in a certain spot why not move the litter tray to there, with plastic sheeting under if need be, until they get the hang of always using it - or having extras ones there?

Do hope you find a solultion short of strangling them. :)

One cat fell off the end table onto another cat. That sent a third cat jumping behind the couch, getting tangled in the blind for a second on the way down. Cats 4 through 6 ran for cover as fast as they could. Mommy cat spent five minutes walking around, talking, convinced one of her babies got hurt. The entire time, I was laughing my a$$ off.

I have to tell you guys the mentality of what I work with.

One of the guys here is having issues with his wife. They are off and on. He moved out a couple weeks ago. They have two children together already. So a couple days ago he is so cranky and says how he just wants to shoot himself his life sucks. We ask why. Well his wife told him she was pregnant again. So someone asks him if he is sure its his. His comment "I know its mine I watched her pee on the stick"

Wow, that's all I can say. He must be a member on this site. Maybe we have talked with him and we don't know it. Oh boy that's so sad I couldn't even laugh.

Ya that wasn't the comment I expected from him.

I am well. They broke ground on our house this week. Its so exciting. I can't believe its going to happen. My first mortgage I remember thinking I am going to be so old when its paid off. Now this time, I will be old! It's a 30 year mortgage. Yikes!

albear

88sunflower

Well we are having the house put in. They had to come in and get the site ready for the cement pad they are putting the house on. "Broke ground" I guess is the term for they are starting to build it. Hang on I have my camera and a picture and you will see what I mean... give me a second.

This one is actually a 15 foot one. It may not look it because its pretty far back. They are way to fun. Do you ever get on it? I am so a kid at heart. I bought it for Gavin when he was two. Really at that age I bought it more for me. What can a two year old do with a trampline. My sister-in-law peed her pants the first time she was on it.

albear
May 14, 2010, 01:42 PM

With a broken leg? Crazy! Can't imagine that felt to good.

Silly bear isn't that why we have kids? Of course I bought the WII for him, of course I bought his little power wheels Escalade for him(yes my arse fits in it just fine), of course the pool was bought for him and the floaties with the drink holders. All these things are for him. I hate to keep going he might sound spoiled. So I play with it all to equal it out.

Sunny, I have a house design idea for you.

When I was in high school, I went to someone's house for a cast party. Don't remember who or what play. What I DO remember, is that their back deck had a big hole in the middle. In that hole, was a trampoline. You walked right from the deck onto the trampoline. They also had a swimming pool in their basement.

If you want to take your trampoline down for winter, you can just make a big 'plug' to go over the hole when the trampoline's not there.

If you can find a way to get a kitten to you, I'm more than happy to let you adopt one. Unfortunately, since I don't drive, I won't be much help in the transporting department.

There's actually a group of truckers that transport animals.

hheath541
May 14, 2010, 05:14 PM
I'd like for alty-cat and unky to be adopted together, if possible. They've really bonded, and neither do well in unfamiliar or uncertain situations.

Aura will do fine just about anywhere, as long as she's allowed to do things on her terms. She likes to be around other people and cats, but likes her space. She accepts cuddles and pets, but only when SHE wants them.

Mop would be great around young kids. He loves cuddles and pets and loves nothing more than to curl up or play next to you. He's very careful with his claws and teeth, and almost never causes pain. I don't think living with a little kid who picks kitty up by the butt or head or puts kitty in a dress and stroller would phase him at all. In fact, I think he'd love it.

hheath541
May 14, 2010, 05:38 PM
The problem is, I bike. I don't drive. That's why I suggested the truckers. They charge, but it's still cheaper than the gas to drive here and back. The only thing is, they require all animals to have their rabies shots, so kitten wouldn't be able to leave until it's at least 12 weeks. They're a few days shy of 7 weeks, right now.

How far from northeast Ohio are you? I'm only about an hour from erie, pa.

88sunflower
May 14, 2010, 05:49 PM
I think I am 8 hours from the PA line. I spent some time in Machanicsburg (sp?) and that was a 14 hour drive. I would really take one if we could make it happen. In all honesty I would.

hheath541
May 14, 2010, 06:11 PM
Then I think the truckers would be our best bet. Here, take a look at their requirements page for transporting animals:

*PET TRANSPORT REQUIREMENTS / APPLICATION (http://www.operationroger.rescuegroups.org/info/display?PageID=4378)

I have never heard of that. What a great thing to do. My only issue is meeting a truck driver at any random time. I am not free at any random time. Or could I be. Hmm... such a great idea! That's cheaper then the shelter here to adopt one.

hheath541
May 14, 2010, 06:41 PM
Well, think on it. It'll be at least another 5 weeks before kitty could leave, anyway. That'll give you time to decide if it's doable, and decide who you want to adopt.

And, of course, if you have any questions about my babies, I am always happy to answer them.

QLP
May 15, 2010, 03:07 AM
Hubby calls me the animal magnet. It started when I came across someone whose children had brought home some guinea pigs without asking permission. The parents didn't want them and the original owner wouldn't take them back. The new owners said they were going to drown them if they couldn't get rid of them. I won't start on what I think of those people...

Anyway, hubby and the kids came home to find the guinea pigs housed at ours. They were actually fantastic llittle pets. Somehow since then we came to rescue quite a few more guinea pigs and a couple of rabbits. The piggies are great, they have all sorts of different squeaks and bubbly noises they use to communicate and I swear we understand just what they want now. The garden is all walled off safely so we let them out of their hutches in a morning and they have free run till bedtime. They wander in the kitchen to see what we are up to and scrounge an odd snack. If it gets near bedtime and we haven't gone out to round them up they come in to round us up and demand their supper!

The rabbits think they own the garden and if I plant a new plant anywhere they don't approve of they dig it up and make me move it. Whenever I have been gardening they do an inspection to see if they like what I have done to their domain. They play happily with the piggies though.

I have to overplant my veggy garden like mad as the animals help themselves to their share. Never have to cut the grass though. :)

Although we live in a town, far from any countryside, we get quite a few lost or injured animals just appear in the garden. We take care of them until they are ready to be on their way. Hedgehogs mainly. Had a lost ferret turn up the other day.

We had a bird once that fell off the roof before it was ready to fly. It managed to flap enough to get to ground without injury but couldn't get back up. It's mum was sqwaking like mad from the rooftop. I made it a little nest in a hole under a wall, fed it, and kept it safe from cats until it could fly. It was great seeing it practising and making progress from being able to just get up onto a small wall until it could finally fly free.

I thought that would be the last I saw of it. But the next time I was out gardening it appeared at my feet and followed me around the garden seeing what tasty morsels I might dig up. When I sat out in the garden having a sandwich it came and begged for some. As winter came it flew off and again I thought that would be the last time I saw it. Next spring it appeared again. Each year it has got a bit more distant. It doesn't come so close now or ask for food but I still catch a glimpse of it checking out it's old nesting spot and having a look around.

Yeah, I've spent the last almost 3 hours trying not to let myself get into a full-blown panic attack and start hyperventilating. If I lose this place, that's it. I lose eligibility for rental assistance, my kitties, and the shelter isn't even an option against for another 8 months.

Just when I was beginning to believe that everything would be OK, the world falls out form underneath me again.

The worse part is, I got this news on the heels of some really great news. My sister's bringing the kids up to visit next Sunday. I've missed my niece and nephew something awful, and I finally get ot meet my youngest niece (who just turned 6 months this week).

I used to have kitties years ago at my old house but this one is on a main road and just too dicey for cats. Think the piggies and rabbits would be pretty scared of a kitty when it grew up. They weren't over impressed when we had to lodge the lost ferret for a couple of days until the owner was traced. Luckily I managed to lure it into a spare hutch before it got to snacking on my rabbits. When the owner collected it he admitted he uses it for rabbiting!

Well, click on the link, it's a Wiggles song. Remember, this is for young kids, and yes, it's a real Wiggles song.

Not as far as I know. Even if they did, I doubt I would qualify. I was getting paid under the table, so there's no pay stubs or taxes or anything.

Right now, I'm focusing on the fact that I get to see my sister and the kids in a week. And, since I don't have to go to work, it should be no problem to get everything cleaned and pretty and organized for when they get here.

What's even better, she's giving me her old vacuum. For the first time since I moved in, I'll be able to vacuum my floors. When you have one person and seven cats in an apartment, the carpets can get pretty bad if you can't vacuum for almost 3 months.

Thanks for the tip hheath! I'm definitely going for mature and responsible! It's more of a casual interview, from what I hear, so dressing too upity would be "awkward" as someone told me, but going in jeans it too laid back. So I opted for black jeans and now a cute blue top.

According to the book, on his death bed he did not admit it.

Apparently she is doing pretty good after getting busted with heroin at LAX in 2008. So, she's been sober 2 years now. But at one time she was sober for 15 years, so only time will tell.

The book was so descriptive that by the end of my shift I thought I was hallucinating aliens in the woodwork of the hospital. The other nurse working with me saw goats instead of aliens.

I promise we were just tired, we were NOT dipping into our narcotic stash. :p

As long as they're not blue salamanders. Hedgehogs and blue salamanders are cohorts.

It was for school. It's this program that helps individuals in Ontario to go to school, it's funded by the government. It would be such a super duper help for me. My load would be a lot lighter that's for sure...

Now I look like a total idiot to the lady that is going to interview me on Wed. because of the secretary's mistake.

I know I heard 9:30.. :( I just know I did.

It hurt when the lady looked at me like some dumb little girl. I hate that... just because I'm young doesn't mean I'm stupid :(

Of course you aren't stupid. Chalk it up to Monday. Maybe she was having a bad day too. Maybe someone pi$$ed in her Wheaties this morning.

You will charm her on Wednesday I'm sure.

Dam, it's the blue salamanders that are indigenous to my neck 'o the woods.

I know! I know!! Hummingbirds! That's the ticket!

Hummingbirds will be perfect. And the only thing you have to do to make sure they don't bother the staff, is make sure they always have plenty of coffee to drink.

Speaking of...

Kittens p!ssed in one of my shoes until it was so wet it made a puddle on the floor. It's soaking in a bucket of water, vinegar, and dish soap. If I knew who did it, I'd strangle them.

IV's might be tricky. Do you even HAVE needles that small? And it might be kind of hard to get them to hold still. All that coffee makes them jittery.

May 17, 2010, 11:16 AM
I did that to myself with this biology class I am taking now Muddy. I swear they said 10am, I show up looking my best, totally prepared to wow them. I'm sitting waiting, half hour goes by, an hour goes by, finally the receptionist comes in and asks if I am waiting for anyone in particular. I tell her I had an appointment at 10am.

She asks my name, rolls her eyes, tells me it was for 9 am. Than proceeds to tell me how incredibly busy they are, and can't possibly wait around all day for me to show up. She tells me they are booked solid for the next two weeks. The course was starting in 4 days. I came in every day for the next four days and waited for one minute of their time to get registered. Finally on the day the class started the counselor took pity on me and registered me.

I hope you wow them on Wednesday! Break a leg!

I am doing much better now Kitty. It was a short depression, but ever since I quit that toxic job, I feel un defeated. Going back to school, catching up on long over due bills, getting to spend more time with my little girl, get to garden during the day, and take naps if I feel so inclined.

Hmm sky blue? That would look nice. I know a woman who dye's her poodle's hair. I think she uses manic panic and the dog seems to enjoy getting it done. But it's the weirdest thing to look out the window to see this little old lady walking a hot pink poodle.
