She got that blue guitar for her 16th birthday. There is a "reason" behind the blue guitar. When her mother and I were growing up in the 70s, we started a little band called "baby blue." We were singing Sean Cassidy and Leif Garrett covers. LOL

I figured that's what you were referring to. I think QP was up almost all night watching the returns and coverage.

Politics is so much fun to watch. If it makes you feel any better, we had local/primary elections on Tuesday. One of the races is for Sheriff. Both candidates have criminal records. One from charges that occurred while he was previously a sheriff.

I (personally) think it's a good thing, as it means no one part controls the majority of seats in the commons and as such have to actually talk to one another and can't just try to pass something through because they have the majority and so it can't be stopped.

The bad thing was that on the night a lot of people were turned away because the polling stations couldn't handle the amount of people attending and were hence told to go away.

My son lives in London and got his vote in just before they started turning people away. Apparently it got a bit ugly.

If there is one or two dishes in the sink, and she just happens to stop by, I can see her starring at them, and she asks what I did all day. No mention of the mowed grass, the million loads of laundry done, the floors being scrubbed. All she sees is those 2 dirty dishes!

Sigh, if she only saw my closets. Shh. I call myself a closet slob! :D

Okay, I have to ask this simply because hubby wants to know what all of you are going to say about it. Before I do though, hubby is not looking for all of you to change my mind, he's perfectly fine with it, he just wants to see how normal people react. Ya, I told him you all aren't normal but he won't listen.

Anyway, as most of you know I'm not a Canadian citizen, as such I have to get a German passport if I'm to travel anywhere other then Canada. The only way I can get a passport at this time is to go to Victoria. I've been putting this off because it's not a cheap trip and I'd really rather not go alone. Also, I'd have to stay for at least 2 days, it's not a one day trip. Sadly, hubby and I can't afford to go on a romantic weekend to Victoria because we have these two things called kids and no one to watch them.

So, I've been putting this on the back burner for a very long time. I have no valid passport right now. :( I really want to get this done, not because I plan to travel, but if I need to, I wouldn't be able to. I don't like leaving things to chance.

Well, yesterday my buddy in LA called. He's an ex-boyfriend but we dated when we were 18, very long time ago, and we remained friends. He's one of my best friends. He comes to Canada to visit because his son lives here and we always get together when he does. Hubby and him are also good friends.

So B (buddy) calls and we get to talking about him coming up here which he will be in August. Then he mentions that he has to go to Victoria in the beginning of July (Actually on hubby's birthday) for a wedding. I jokingly said that I should meet him there, I could go with him to the wedding and get my passport renewed while I'm in town. At first it was a joke but we started talking about it and it's a really good idea. We could share a room so that would cut costs in half. July is actually a good time to go, the flights are pretty cheap. Also, he's the kind of person that can be dropped into any town and find his way around. I have a hard time finding my way around my own house. He'd be handy to have along.

So I told hubby and he agreed that this was a good plan. Then I mentioned that I'd be going on his birthday and he started to laugh. When B was here in February for 4 days the only time we could get together was on Valentines day, so I went out with my ex for Valentines while hubby stayed home with the kids. Now I'd be going on a 4 day trip to Victoria with my ex on my husbands birthday. Hubby is finding this really funny and wonders if normal people would be shocked or also laugh.

Are you all still with me? Rolling your eyes yet?

Wow. That's... a situation. So as long as the two of you are comfortable with the idea, than there's no problem. I can't say I would feel comfortable with my husband sharing a hotel room with his ex. However, I understand what you mean about you dating a long time ago and with that being said, I don't think I would feel comfortable with my hubby sharing a room with ANY woman.

How come you can only get your passport renewed in Victoria?

Hey, as long as he doesn't have a problem with it, then why should we?

I would suggest, however, trying to arrange for someone to take the kids overnight (or at least for an evening) the weekend before or after his birthday and having a date night for just the two of you. Not only will it celebrate his birthday, but I'm sure you don't get many kid-free nights.

Actually, I totally trust hubby to stay in a hotel with another woman. I'm a flirt, so is he, but one thing neither of us would ever do is cheat. I couldn't live with myself if I did and hubby's just too darn lazy. ;)

Victoria or Toronto, those are my two options. Victoria is closer and the flights are cheaper. There's a new fingerprint thingamajig in the German passports now and only Victoria and Toronto have the fingerprint machine available. You have to be there in person to get it done. It's a pain in the arse.

We do have a German consulate in Edmonton, but no finger print machine. It's some kind of digital high tech thingy.

Nope, he's totally fine with it, he just thinks it's funny that I spent Valentine's Day with B and now hubby's birthday. It is a bit funny. :)

We rarely get a kid free night. When we talked about this Victoria thing last night hubby said that he'd rather celebrate his birthday the weekend after. He wants to have a Sumo party, rent the sumo suits and have a BBQ. The thing is, his birthday is on a long weekend and most of our friends will be camping. It would be better to do it the weekend after, so it's all good. :)

Sounds great to me. Actually, it sounds like something Cats and I would do except for celebrating his birthday. He isn't big on celebrating his birthday.

I just hope your health is behaving by then. I would hate for a problem to occur while you are that far from home.

It's not too far away. If I drove it would be, but by plane it's only a 1 1/2 hour flight.

I'm actually looking forward to going there, Victoria is a beautiful island, Butchart Gardens is there, I'd love to see it again (haven't since I was 11). There's also a really nice aquarium, a wax museum, a miniature museum, and lots more. I'd try to get as much into those 4 days as I can. :)

LOL! I plan on it, but I'm terrible at putting that off. You see that's something I can do here, so I'm forever making excuses, putting it off, allocating the money to something else.

The Victoria trip would be a good push because it's then or not at all. Once I get it renewed I don't have to worry about it again for 10 years. :)

So does R and the kids have their passports Alty ???

R and Jared do (actually, I think Jared needs a new one), Sydney doesn't, she's never needed one, we haven't traveled anywhere in her 7 years.

For them it's easy, they're all citizens, it would be a one week process at most, more likely 2 or 3 days.

For me, even after going to Victoria, it will still take 6 months to a year before I have my passport in hand. That's why I'm eager to get it done.

No, my parents never did. I'm actually a bit bitter about it. Had they gone through the application process before I turned 18, it would have been free and I wouldn't have had to take a test. Sadly back then there was no internet, so they had to send away for the applications and didn't do so until I was already 18. At that time it cost $800 per person which wasn't in the budget for the 3 of us.

I could have actually had dual citizenship before I turned 18. Not anymore.

It's one of those twenty twenty hindsight moments. They didn't know, so not their fault. I just wish we had looked into it earlier.

You should have seen the crap I had to go through getting my passport changed when I got married. Just changing my last name took over a year. Back then they didn't have the fingerprint addition, so I could do it all here and then they just sent it off to the Consolate in Toronto. I did have to get every little piece of paper notarized. One year of back and forth, need more paperwork, you didn't dot this I. Arghhhhh! It was insane!

Oh, I know, and I'd like to visit it. I just don't want to live there. This state is my home. It's where all my family is. Even though they're 4 hours away and I'll probably only get to see them about once a year, it's still nice to know that we're in the same state. Once I get my license, and a car, I'll be able to see them more often, hopefully.

Someday, I'd like to see the ocean. I'd love to go diving in a reef. And stand at the top of a mountain. And fly, I want to fly somewhere.

We moved because the possibilities of owning a home in Germany are almost nil, unless you're a multimillionaire. They have 100 year mortgages there.

Not a lot of new developments going up so finding a house isn't easy. Once you get one you keep it in the family, so finding one for sale, forget one under a million dollars, is not easy.

All my dads family moved here, we were the last ones to pack our bags and come over.

I love Germany, often miss it, but I would never live there. I'm a Canadian without the paperwork to prove it. ;)

Well kids, it's time for bed.

Sleep tight. :)

Things are going good. I got a little bored and pulled my bed, dressers, and night stands out of my bed room, I pulled all my clothes out of the closets, and SCRUBBED my room down.

See I have a mouse, he's in my kitchen but at night I get the heebie jeebies, so I pulled everything out and scoured the room with bleach and water. Vacuumed the floors, corners, base boards and ceilings. Smells delicious.

Last night I left some dirty dishes in the sink, and I heard him in there, so I boiled up some water and bleached my dishes. Pulled my fridge and stove out and bleached and vacuumed back there. I was a busy girl. Do you think bleach is enough of a disinfectant?

I had a mouse problem one time in a house we rented. We got a cat and the stupid cat was terrified of the mice. Go figure that's my luck. So we set traps under the sink and we got two in less then 30 minutes. How scary is that.

We live behind a field. We often get mice in our garage, but until a year ago they never got into the house. Then hubby accidentally didn't shut the door properly and voilą, mice.

I'm not afraid of them, but finding poo in my cabinets was not okay. Also, the little bastards got into my china cabinet drawer. I have an old bible in there, it's from the late 1700's, I was going to have it appraised and sell it. They chewed it up, used the pages for a nest!

At first I got the humane traps because I hate killing anything, but after a month of them not falling for it, I got the snap traps and giggled an evil laugh every time I heard it go off. :)

The thing is, one mouse quickly leads to tons of mice if you don't get the little bugger right away. If it's a pregnant female, you'll have a huge problem in no time. Also, you have to find out where that little guy got in and plug up the hole.

Now that we have Chewy we never even get them in the garage. Beagles are hunters, they usually hunt rabbits, but since Chewy has been trained to leave rabbits alone but still has the urge to hunt, he goes after the mice instead. It's really funny to watch him and he's a pretty good hunter. Sadly he also hunts bugs, grasshoppers, moths, anything big enough to make it worth his while. He doesn't kill them though, he brings them into the house so he can play with them. :(

I live in an upstairs apartment with seven cats and the people downstairs have two dogs. I don't think I'll ever really have to worry about mice.

My sister had a cat that would catch birds and bring them inside to feed to her babies. The one time I was there when she did that, my sister, mom, and a friend all screamed like little girls and wouldn't calm down until I picked the bird up and took it outside. Tigger promptly went outside and found it to bring back inside. She brought it in 4-5 times that day. I don't think it helped that it was still squawking the first time she brought it in.

There's nothing like 3 grown women freaking out and screaming over a dead bird while you pick it up with a paper towel and take it outside. The hard part was fending off 4 kittens who thought I was stealing their toy and a mommy who thought I was stealing her babies' food.

Alty

Our cats always brought little gifts inside. My mom would stand on a chair screaming for me to come take care of it.

Funny thing was, my mom was more afraid of the dead critters then the live ones. I don't know why.

My dad loved all living things, bugs, rodents, you name it. I learned a lot from him. He used to pick up live bees, he was so calm that they never stung him. Every weekend we'd go to some park or a hike and he'd tell me the names of all the trees, plants, birds, bugs, whatever we saw. He loved nature.

Oh, have to mention this. There was a baby bunny at my kids school the other day. Of course all the kids crowded around it wanting to catch it, to pet it. My son stood in front of the crowd telling everyone to back off. He just stood there telling them that touching the bunny was a bad idea, that the mother was most likely around, that rabbits don't stay with their young a lot because the adults give off a scent that attracts predators but babies don't, so it's safer for them to be without mom. He told them that rabbits are very skittish and the baby could die of a heart attack from fear. Everyone backed off and left the bunny alone.

I am so proud of my little man. I guess I have rubbed off on him. :)

A couple months ago my mom adopted a kitten. She was told that tillie was four months old. Well, tillie had 'six kittens no bigger than mice' Saturday morning. Now I get to coach my mom through everything I've gone through in the past 6 weeks.

She's never had to take care of baby animals before. She has no idea what she's doing. I had to give her a crash course on basic cat care when I was down to visit last summer. Thankfully, she has me and a coworker (who works with an area cat rescue) that she can ask questions.

Speaking of shiny, I have a nightlight so I don't trip over kitties on the way to the bathroom in the dark. Kittens have decided that the nightlight is a toy. More than once, I've found one or more of them sitting next to it with their arms wrapped around the bulb.

Edith has weird kids.

Hello again all. Is it really only us Brits who dip our chips (err fries to most of you guys I guess) in our eggs? I thought that was some kind of international law :P

I think I just won the battle against an invading ant army. Little blighters were even climibing into the dishwasher eww. Now I'm trying to track down a wasps nest that I fear is lurking somewhere. We had them in the loft and behind the weather boards the last two years and it looks like they are back yet again. Argh.

When some neighbours did up an old house that had been left empty we also got mice. Managed to sort those pretty quickly at least, but not before one ran right past my foot while I was ironing. I actually jumped on a chair and screamed like something out of Tom and Jerry. Hubby laughed. A lot.

A friend came to visit with her little boy, who was playing quietly with trains on the floor, whilst I was telling her about our pest invasions. I finished with,'I'm fed up now, and wondering what flipping creatures will try to move in next.' Her little boy looked up and said, hopefully, 'bears?' Eek!

If I handled it my way it would be a done deal. I like to play dirty. My brothers are keeping it clean and legal. I say...whatever. I started something in the legal threads but thats only a tiny part of it.

I hope he is feeling better quickly (How was the dr's appointment?).

You have an ear here if you just want to rant. I can't offer legal advice but I can offer sympathy and understanding. You are all in my thoughts as you go through this. :)

Well the doctor said it was lyrangitis (spelling?) But I think he is crazy. He is still coughing so bad this morning. I have him on this breathing machine that is supposed to beak up the cough. It hasn't yet. His fever is down thank god that's what scared me.

My dads situation is frustrating. There is tons more then I have in the legal threads. I wish this woman the worse and I mean it.

Nope not completely done I have my final year to do but they likeus to have a years placement, if I don't find one I might just take a year out trying to find a job to pay for my third year and generally getting my sh!t togeather as I'm rather messed up.

From the things you've told us about this woman she is just the worst kind of person and deserves nasty things to happen to her

88sunflower

I am still getting my sh!t together and I am 37. Good luck. Let me know how you do it.

Ya she is something else. My dad hates her. When I talked with him the other night he kept saying if she shows up where he is now he is going to tell her to leave. We ha no idea she was that mean to him. But of course she kept him around for his money. Every cent of it she took.

It went very well. He was shaky at first with it. We all were. But the place is beautiful. They say it takes a few weeks for a resident to settle and be happy and he was in love with the place in a matter of days. He has changed so much for the better since being there

That doesn't sound like laryngitis. I ended up with laryngitis over christmas a couple years back. There was no coughing or fever, not even a sore throat. Just a sudden inability to produce sounds. I spent a week not being allowed to make ANY noises. I used hand gestures, a text to voice program on my computer, whistles, and a notepad to communicate.

Aurora_Bell

Hey guys. Ya I think its something else he has to. Some other bug. But he is getting better so that's the important thing. He is certainly healthy enough to just have world war III with me over eating chips or something healthy. I suggested fruits or veggies. He said chips. He eats enough chips to keep those potato pickers running ragged.
