I am trying to download the lates itunes on my computer, but my computer won't let me. It says I need Windows XP, but I have that already. I think it's because my computer is quite old and has a celeron processor. I also didn't have it connected to the internet for about a year last year, so I think that caused the problem because I don't think I have the latest version of Installer. When I am on Facebook I am constantly asked to upgrade my browser, but I can't! I tried to download a new Installer today, but again I couldn't do that. I need your help!

The iTunes' system requirements (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/) list Windows XP Service Pack 2, Vista, or Windows 7. What XP Service Pack level are you running? Right-click My Computer and choose Properties to find out.

Also what web browser version are you using? The version is available from the browser's Help Menu > About or thereabouts.

Having a Celeron processor will not affect the ability to download general purpose software like iTunes. Your computer may have low performance as a result but that is an entirely different issue.

Hello! Thanks for getting back to me. My XP Service Pack Level is:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 1

And the Browser version is:

6.6.2800.1106.xpsp2.020921-0842

Is there anything I can do? I would like to avoid buying a new computer if possible!

I think, and I'm not very computer literate, you can download the Service Pack 2 here:

Download Windows XP Service Pack 2: XP SP2 (Full package) (http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html)

When downloading software from a third-party source, scanning first with antiviral software is prudent.

The full Service Pack 2 is also available directly from Microsoft from the download center (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en)* or via Windows Update found on the Internet Explorer Tools menu. A service pack update is a major change to your computer, please backup any important data before proceeding with the update. I suggest the following sequence of steps:

Download and apply Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Download and install Internet Explorer 7 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9AE91EBE-3385-447C-8A30-081805B2F90B&displaylang=en).
Run Windows Update and apply all high-priority updates.
Download and install iTunes.

Then, the following is recommended but not required:

Download and apply Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Download and install Internet Explorer 8 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=341c2ad5-8c3d-4347-8c03-08cdecd8852b&displaylang=en).
Run Windows Update and apply all high-priority updates.

* Note to all readers: The software updates linked above are for the U.S. English version of Windows XP. Updates for any other localized Windows XP operating system versions should be obtained from the respective regional Microsoft web site.

Thank you so much Scleros and J_9! You have both been very helpful.
I backed up my files and then downloaded Service Pack 2 and the latest Internet Explorer. I then successfully downloaded itunes!!
I'm really pleased, thanks again for your help - you saved me from having to take my laptop to a computer shop!
