I have a leaking diverter with 1 handel. I removed the knob and plate there is a retaining clip around the valve stem that iI removed how do I remove the valve stem.

I hope you have also shut off the water supply to this valve. Pull out firmly on the cartrdige with a twisting motion. If this does not work you can buy/rent a cartridge puller.
