I have a craftsman riding mower and when I go uphill it seems to stall out. I have a feeling it is not getting gas because as soon as I get on a level part of my yard it runs fine. I am planning on getting a new fuel filter today but was wondering what else it could be? There was plenty of gas in the tank when it stalled out. Thanks for any help!

My tractor was doing the same thing. I took carborator apart cleaned put it back togther, still stalls uphill. Found a piece of dirt in the opening on bottom of gas tank. Got the dirt out put tank back on running fine now. I guess it was not letting enough gas get to the carb. When needed the extra power for the hill. I hope this helps if not too late.

. My poulan tractor with a briggs & stratton vtwin 22hp motor would stall after mowing for about an hour. The fuel in the filter would be very low & bubbling. I suspected the fuel pump but after checking different message boards I wound up on a wild goose chase from bad cylender, push rods, head gaskets, carb seolenoid, float, etc. problem continued, engine running rough etc. I watched the fuel filter when the problem would occur & it was obvious the fuel was running backwards! Apparently the pump was bad and the system was operating as gravity feed & up hill was draining the carb. These fuel pumps can't handle alcohol well & our gas has alc in it (then again it was 4 years old). I got a new fuel pump on eBay for $12, runs like a champ, full power is back. I plan on ordering a backup. I hope this helps someone out there.
