 I have a Miller oil furnace in my garage that burns very dark orange and sooty. It also keeps burning inside after the unit shuts down. I have replaced the nozzle twice with no change. The flue from the top of the unit all the way through the roof is clear.
Any ideas??

Are you sure that you have adequate combustion air? Try opening the door a bit and see if it burns cleaner... A garage is considered an enclosed area and must have outside combustion makeup air...

I'm sorry I wasn't more clear... I should have said barn or maybe even wind-tunnel, it even does this with the big door open
Thanks anyway for your time

I'm assuming it's a 3450 rpm burner?
How are the primary air bands on the burner set? Perhaps they are not open as much as they should be?
Is the condition of the combustion chamber OK? There might be something in front of the air tube causing impingement.
Is the furnace sooting?
There may be something wrong with the end of the air tube causing the problem. It could be cracked, burned away.
What is the pump pressure? Is the nozzle cutoff portion of the pump OK? If not, the oil will leak into the chamber after shut down and burn.
Perhaps the nozzle is too large or has the incorrect pattern for the combustion area.
