There could be a clog in the bottom where the screen is. This is a safety mechanism keeping the dishwasher from running and the motor from burning out. I have addressed this problem several times here on this site. To unclog the machine you have to remove the screen at the bottom of the tub. Then carefully reach your fingers into the tube and remove any and all large debris that are present. You may also have to clean out the sprayer arms little jet openings as well. You will probably have to clean out the bottom part several times and use a plunger as well depending on how clogged the machine is. Carefully put the screen back on and turn the machine on to see if that did the trick. Also if it does start up, be sure to run several empty loads through all the cycles to get any more debris out. You may have to remove the screen and remove more debris after each run through depending on the age of the machine and how much crud is in there. It's very surpsising what little bits of plastic and food can do to a dishwasher.
