I have an american standard two handle sink with side handsprayer. It is in the 'hamilton' collection.

In the past few weeks the water pressure has been abysmal. It is almost a joke. When we installed the sink a year ago, we also replaced the supply hoses to the sink as well as the valves - they are all new.

Now, when you turn the faucet on slightly, the pressure starts OK. It was never as good as my old ugly faucet, but I assumed it was just "different" than my old faucet, so I got used to it. As you continue to turn it on, the pressure drops. It doesn't matter if it is hot or cold.

I cleaned the aerator - the problem persists even without the aerator on. I also removed the main stem and got it down to this (http://picasaweb.google.com/MirandaODell/Sink#5261999389924980690)

I don't know what that little tabbed screw looking thing is, but when I push it down, no water comes out. I assume it is the divertor to the handsprayer? I also notice that it wants to 'pop up' as the water is turn on. Is this supposed to happen? When I put everything back together, it seemed to be fine for a few minutes, then the pressure was crap again.

Not sure what the problem is, but I do know that the website says "lifetime warranty". I'm worried they'll send me another faucet only for the same issue to arise.

It looks like it is time for a new faucet, before you do any thing call American Standerat at
1-800-442-1902, tell them about your problem they will tell you what to do, or they may send you a new faucet if you are lucky, thanks.

Clean your Aerator... Aerator is the filter screen on tip of your faucet spout.

I think he says that he removed the Aerator and the problem persists even without the aerator on, that's why I asked to contact the American Stander, Thanks..

So, no clues as to what the screw thing in the pictures is?

I will call American standard definitely - no doubts there. I was just hoping someone had a little advice on something else I might be missing.

Oh, and by the way... I'm a girl. :)

1. See if your angle stops are open all the way.
2. In any case: Open and Close both angle stops.
3. Look under sink. There are h/c water supplies. Make sure they are not kinked.

I don't know hat "screw" you are talking about. I looked your photos but don't see any screw. They only screw on the spout is the one that holds the spout to to the body. Can you be more specific ?

In the picture, zoom in. There is a little magnifying glass thing you can click to zoom.

In the middle of the pipe, there is a small brown screw looking thing. It has four tabs that come off it. It looks like a regular flat head screwdriver would fit into it.

What are angle stops?

The hoses underneath are not kinked, and the shut off valves are fully opened.

OK, that thing is your diverter... Can you remove it ?

Also, try this: remove the diverter, put towel over the hole and turn water on. See if you get lots of pressure. Then, install the diverter, put towel over the hole again and see how much pressure you have now. This test should tell us whether it is the diverter that is the cause of your water flow problem.

I tried removing the divertor last night. I gentry tried to coax it out, and nothing. Then I even grabbed it with pliers and tried slightly forcefully, but it doesn't come out. I'm afraid that if I REALLY try, I will break something important.

It almost seems like it is on a spring? It sort of goes up and down slightly (a quarter of an inch or so) but it won't come up to be removed. As the pressure underneath of it mounts, however (as I turn the valves on more) it seems to pop up slightly more than I wonder if it should. I wonder if that blocks the flow of water --- I'm not sure.

Yes, diverters can restrict water flow and frequently do. Also, you may have dirt accumulated below the diverter. It is common problem...

That up/down movement is what diverts water to the spout and hand spray. The diverter sits on one or two O-rings inside the faucet. It is very common that it is "frozen" in. Play with it, jiggle it side to side, twist it, and apply even, upward pull pressure. It should go...

Make sure your h/c water handles are in close position.

Ok. I will try this again tonight and let you know the results.

No worries. I am appreciative of all of the advice. I do realize that by reading my username no one would be able tell who is who and what is what.

I'm not offended. Not at all.

I called A.S. today and they are sending me a new diverter and... new cartridges? I assume the cartridges go inside the handles. I now know what the diverter is, so I know where that should go. The question will be trying to get that thing out.

I will update with the results.

That's great. You will have all new interior parts for your new A.S. faucet. It should work like new after the parts are installed. You need only basic tools and bit of common sense to install them.
