Ok I have a Fisher and paykel model no. ED56AU when starting it sometimes I need to turn the barrel a few times to get it going or run it empty first for a while to make it work and even then I still have to turn the... thing a few times. It heats it drys but its getting worse lately

If it has a transmission that sounds like it is going out or the motor because I had a washer that it would rotate till I put water and clothes in it and then it would just set there and shut itself off so they told me a new washer would be just as expensive as a new one so I just bought a new one and junked the old one but that sounds like the problem

If it's a capacitor start motor, then likely the starting cap went bad. This is usually a cylinder sitting on top of the motor but can be separate.

Probably not likely that it has a centrifugal switch which is another way to start induction motors.

The motor will usually include both items and is an integral part of the latter.

You will have to open the back of the dryer. But it could be the drive belt and belt tensioner. I replaced the tub rollers and belt and hardware on a dryer brother in law was throwing away and I used it 5 more years with out a problem.
