What about doing a "short block"? Could save you quite a bit of $.

I have also had problems with the engine on my DYT 4000.

Two weeks after the two year warranty was over the engine blew up. I tarted the engine once morning and it started up fine. I rode the mower from the back yard to the front yard and turned off the mower. After I moved some stuff around... rakes, shovels... I started the mower again and it made a strange sound. I turned off the mower... checked the oil levels and then tried to start it again... this time the mower started but immediately made some very bad noises (like metal breaking) and it stopped. I opened the hood only to find that the engine casing had a big gaping hole in it. When I opened the engine it was destroyed inside... everything was broke... the upper engine case, the lower engine case, the counter weight, the push rod... everything!

I need a new engine also so I am interested in knowing how you resolved your issue.
