    Step parent adoption
I live in Tennessee. My ex-husband and I divorced when my child was three. The court ordered him to pay child support and he was to have no visitation or communication with my child until his child support was current. I felt this was a little harsh, so I have always tried to keep him in her life. He still makes no effort to see her. He will write her letters from time to time saying that he will see her and do things with her but never does. He is over 20 thousand dollars be hind in child support. My child will be 12 in a few months and has only seen her bio father three times since our divorce. The last time she was 5. she recently came to my new husband and I with a letter she wrote to her bio father saying that she would like for her step father to adopt her. We all discussed it and came to the conclusion that would probably be in her best interest. Since it's been so long that he has made an attempt to be a part of her life, what will the court system do if he contest the adoption? That is if we can even find him to start it.

If he doesn't consent to adoption they are going to say something to the effect of "sorry ma'am. It's his right"

It's not the COURTS you have to win over, exactly.

    It's her biological father.

    Get a lawyer.
