    My husband wants to adopt my son
    My husband wants to adopt my son and my sons birth father is not around his name is not on the birth certificate. How would I go through the process of letting my husband adopt him? Where would I go? How much will it cost? :confused:

    This should be somewhat easy, although from what I'm learning, it depends upon what state in the US you are in. So long as the birth father hasn't signed a putative father registry, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Check with an adoption agency.

    You MUST get the birth father's permission, or at least attempt to.

    If you do NOT, the adoption will NOT be valid.

    See a family lawyer. You'll get better answers for your area from an attorney, which you will probably need to file for adoption anyway.

    There has to be a effort to find the birth father and get his permisssion, if he can not be found ( and if you lie and it is proved the adoption can be oberturned) If not found, it is published and the judge can rule on it wthout birth father,

    It would be easier and cheaper if the father was known where he was and he would just sign.

    You could just have your husband sign an acknowlegment of paternity and then his name would go on the B.C. then everythings legal as far as I know, w/o having to do adoption. It may depend on the state. Ask your family court where to geth this paper.

    Please, you have received some very seriously dangerous advice as to lie on the paternity. This could be overturned if it was proven that it was a fraud. There are legal ways to do this, if you do not follow legal methods you will only face additional legal problems

    Sorry I guess I didn't think about the fraud thing. I just know that a friend of mine had her b-friend sign the paternity thing when her child was born b-c the father didn't want anything to do with it. Sorry again, I didn't mean to give you bad advice.:(
