My mother gave me my birth certificate and I noticed that on it my birth was not registered until 4 years after I was born? I went to the registery office and they said there was another birth certificate before this it listed my mother and I had my mother maiden name but on the father section it just had "------". This means that at some point my birth was re-registered and I cannot find out why? I am 48 and still do not know if a t some stage I was adopted or was this the norm in 1962? My mum will not even talk about it or tell me anything, I need to know.

If your mom will not talk about it, you're probably NOT going to know.

The only way to open closed records, as a general rule, is to prove you need them opened for medical reasons.

What do other people in your family say?

The only other person that could tell me is my grandmother but she has passed away because I lived with her for the first 4 years of my life and not with my mum and "dad".
