Finding information on an adoption in the late 1800's
I am researching my family tree and in the process I have learned that my Great Grand Father was adopted. How would I go about finding information on that?

Adoptions were much more informal then, people just took kids in withoout having to go to court etc. so there may not be any official paperwork on record at all.

How did you find out he was adopted? That source may lead you to more info.

My Dad and his siblings remember my Grandfather and Great-Grandfather talking about it. My Great-Grandfather Earl would tell his children and grandchildren about his biological father. Unfortunately, my Grandpa died when my dad was still pretty young so he didn't hear much about it and my aunts and uncles are getting on in years and they are having a hard time remembering very much about it.

Can you get your hands on the family Bible (if there is one) or church baptism records? Letters are also a good source of info if anyone kept them.

Sorry I can't be much help, as I said adoption was a more informal thing, done between families and not with official involvement for the most part.
