    Urine test for alcohol
I drank three regular shots last night around 2-3am. I haven't drank in over a year, my metabolism is off the charts, and I'm 6'0, 135 lbs. Ill probably go in for the test at 4 pm, would I be clean, or at the least, would it be such a small trace that it could be explained away to everyday products containing alcohol?

If the test is for alcohol you will have no trace in urine at this 12 hour interval. However, if the test is for metabolites EtG/EtS you will in all probability be positive.

The following study involved about 3 shots of vodka consumed by 10 healthy males and all were positive for EtG/EtS at 20 hours following consumption. This study shows both ethanol and metabolite detection times. (Hoiseth, 2008)

As a side note I would be somewhat concerned at 6 ft and 135 lbs. Are there other health issues

I just have an extremely fast metabolism. My whole family does. And I don't know what an EtG test is, but it like be sent off for testing. All of their UAs are sent off

I think it will be tested for ethanol, and by the looks of that chart, traces of it were gone around 5-7 hours later

Ethanol (EtOH) is metabolized at the rate of one drink each one hour and fifteen minutes (population average). So there will be no trace of EtOH in your system.

Testing for EtOH can be and usually is done at point of collection (POC) either by breathalyzer, blood or urine. There is little benefit in testing urine for EtOH as it is present only slightly longer than in breath.

EtG testing, used only where total abstinence is required, is usually sent out for testing due to special instrument requirements.

EtG tests are also flawed because they sift out traces of every kind of alcohol such as mouthwash, lotions, deodorants, body sprays. Could such a small amount that I used be blamed away on that and make sense?

You are correct that EtG testing is flawed and unreliable... but it does detect remnants of alcohol from any source. The problem you confront with arguing error is that the person interpreting the test will in all likelihood have no knowledge of the test... only the results. So even if you hadn't been drinking... they are inclined to view the results as accurate.

Had you not consumed alcohol then there are other tests that would counter the results (in the event of a false positive). But if this test is positive then the other would only serve to affirm.

EtG testing is flawed not only from the standpoint of false positives but far more often it provides false negatives. EtG can degrade (or increase) even in the sample during shipment or while sitting in the laboratory (see Rana & Ross)

So even though you consumed alcohol you have about a 15-40% chance of not being detected and the guy behind you that didn't drink may register positive because of his shaving lotion.

    Some test!
