Would an appendectomy due to perforated appendix cause a positive in EtG and peth tes
I had my appendix out due to it rupturing 3 weeks ago. I took a EtG test and it come up positive. I also just took a peth test, could anything I was given in the hospital or from the surgery cause these to come out positive?

When did you take the EtG/EtS test in relation to the surgery, and have you drank since the surgery. Can you narrow down when the alcohol could have gotten into your system?

No I have not drank. I had the surgery on June 18th. I was in the hospital until June 23rd. I had the EtG test on Monday July 6th which came up positive. I just took the Peth alcohol blood test today so I won't have the results for a few days but I'm just worried because obviously something was in my system to come up on the EtG test. So I don't know what could have caused it to come up positive but figured maybe it had something to do with the surgery or what I was given in the hospital.

Perhaps you should ask the hospital this question. We would have no way of knowing the answer. But I suspect nothing could have been used to cause this.

You need to get the records from your hospital stay if you're in trouble. It does sound like something you were given to take. What medication did you come home with?

I came home with 3 antibiotics and percocet. I only took the percocet for 3 days and apparently that didn't come up in my test ( if they even tested for it I'm not sure because they don't tell us what they're testing just if we come up positive). I just wasn't sure if like due to my appendix exploding if something from drinking months ago could have came out, or if like there was ethanol in my liver that just got flushed out or something I have no idea I'm just going crazy trying to find a logic reason . Or how an EtG cold come up as a false positive and an peth could come up as a false positive. Bc I feel like if the EtG came up positive then the Peth will too.

Alcohol based products such as hand sanitizer, perfume/cologne, etc. can cause a false positive.

Even in small amounts though? I have hair that needs a lot of product in it and I clean my house with cleaning products and ate cupcakes that used vanilla extract in it but I thought for it to show up it'd have to be in large quantities.

Most likely it is due to your hair products and cleaning supplies.

If if you are supposed to avoid alcohol, you have to avoid it in ALL products. Incidental exposure will cause a positive.

First hair really does not "need" a lot of products, but yes just minor use of some of these can cause you to fail the test.
