Energy Drinks
I honestly believe that my boyfriend is addicted to energy drinks. Could this have a negative effect on his heart?

Hi, Momma!
Don't energy drinks contain a lot of caffeine?
Thanks!

I know that I'm probably twice your age and probably also of your boyfriend.
When I was employed as a teacher, I used to start my day with a whole pot of coffee. Didn't faze me at all! I even took a Thermos bottle of coffee to school to drink. Also, no problems.
That went on for many years...
Now, at 52, I can't have any caffeine at all. If I do, it's like I'm having a heart attack! Anxiety and panic attack rolled into one coupled with palpitations of my heart!
My thoughts now are, that caffeine taken in moderation might be okay, but overdoing it definitely isn't.
I really think that I triggered something by my overdoing it...
I also remember, years ago, when I was complaining about pains to my gall bladder, the chiropractor that I was seeing saying to me, "Have you ever seen pictures of what caffeine can do to your liver?"
Hopefully, others will be along to address your question. I hope that my answer was sufficient enough for your.
Thanks!

You're welcome and it's always a pleasure, Momma!
If I were you, I would suggest looking up the affects that caffeine can have on the body. It can be scary. I know what it did to me...
I've learned some lessons the hard way... Hopefully, what I have learned, I can share with others so that they don't make the same mistakes that I have. This would be concerning a number of different things.
Later...
Thanks!

Yes, those energy drinks have been linked to various heart related problems regardless of how old the drinker of these drinks are! They are quite addictive as well I've been told. I've never tried them but from what I've personally observed of the people where I used to work and their behavior of running around like nutcakes and talking fast and acting fast I would never drink one of them.
If you love your boyfriend, I would suggest weaning them off these drinks as soon as possible.
Did you know that these so called energy drinks are actually banned in some countries around the world due to their adverse reactions?
Whatever you're eating... send me some, OK?

See, the great thing about this man I love is that he knows when its time to throw in the towel. He's weaning himself from them and replacing them with cold green tea!

I stopped the energy drinks cold turkey a few weeks ago. Biggest benefit for me was the weight loss. Taking in a lot less sugar!

Not as much as an actual cup of coffee. Probably a young kid addicted to sugar that is has more than anything. I wouldn't worry about it. Tell him to grow up.

He's not a young kid. I do worry about him, because I love him. And telling him to grow up because he drinks energy drinks doesn't even make sense.

Hi there, I just had one other question. I noticed that there are 150% of certain vitamins. I don't have the can here, so I don't recall which ones. But can this be bad? I mean isn't too much of a good thing bad?

If they really contain the amount of vitamins that they claim, (which I doubt that they really do), and these would seem to be vitamins of the B complex, then I would think that the body would simply flush out the excess. At least that's my understanding as to how the body handles an excess of vitamins that it doesn't really need.
Thanks!

There was also a recent show, I think on 20/20, but don't really remember, that was very revealing as to the false claims made by all these flavored water companies. I'm sure that the hype about energy drinks is about the same thing as the claims made for the "special" waters.
Thanks!
