    False ETG positive with Ibuprofein?
    Dr. Bill

I hurt my low back while shoveling snow on Friday.
I took 1200mg of regular Ibuprofein on Saturday, then, on Sunday, took 400mg at 8am,
And then I took another 400mg alcohol free ibuprofein at 2pm,
I need to to take ETG/Poly test at 7pm today (monday).

I just found an article that Ibuprofein may cause a false positive on ETG test.
    http://www.passyourdrugtest.com/false-positives.htm

Will it show a false positive?
    Thank you very much always.

Checked your above link and didn't find anything in regard to EtG. However, I know of no products except those containing ethanol that are reported to produce a false positive on EtG. All of the test to date indicate it is a highly specific test.

If you find information to the contrary I would like to be advised and will review.

That being said, all initial screens, immunoassays (IA), can cause false positives with no discernible cause, the error rate is in the range of 2-10%. That is the reason for confirmatory testing after an initial presumed positive.

I just looked up the list of active ingredients of Ibuprofen,
It contains polyvinyl alcohol in the regular Ibuprofen, I took 400mg of this at 8am yesterday 1200mg on Saturday, then took alcohol free 400mg at 2pm yesterday.
Is polyvinyl alcohol safe for ETG/Poly test?
    My ETG cutoff is 500ng.

I apologize that I was mistaken,, Ibuprofen may show a false positive for THC(I have no idea about this test) or Marijuana test.
I googled Ibuprofen ETG, and got many hits, so I got panicked.
I will be taking ETG and Poly drug test at 7pm.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Polyvinyl (PVA) is a synthetic (man made)and is oxidized by a different enzyme than ethanol (PVA dehydrogenase v. alcohol dehydrogenase). The metabolites would be different and to the best of my knowledge would not create EtG in the process regardless of the amount present. On the EtG part of the test you should be fine.

EtG test is simply an add-on to a multi-drug panel.
