    Etg/ets testing
    DrBill,

I might have an EtG test soon. I will be about 110 ten hours from my last drink. I did drink pretty heavily that night? With that said, what are the chances of etg/ets showing in my urine from that night aprox 110 hours from last drink?

    Thanks for your help!

There shouldn't be any detectable EtG/EtS at that time span providing you are in good health... no liver problems.

The cutoff level is the lowest cutoff level I believe... 100 ng and 25 ets. Would that make any difference?

Not at that time span. 100/25 is an invitation to false positives. Thousands of products like after shave, mouthwash, etc register in that range. 500 is the recommended cutoff now.

If you get a chance would like to hear back if your testing agency/lab are following the new guideline.

How would you I recommend doing that in a way that I'm not obvious? I know redwood is the lab they go through and it states on their website they do use 100/25 cut off... when did 500 become recommended cutoff?

The update I was provided some months ago was undated. So is the correspondence on the website. See Ethylglucuronide

There is nothing to require them to follow recommendations. No standards or regulations except in testing for federal employees and they ban EtG/EtS tests.

I don't understand why there would be a recommended cut-off and others are used. Is redwood laboratories different from other labs?

Redwood isn't different. There are no official standards for this test. SAMHSA, that regulates federally mandated rules, recommends that it not be used, that it is not reliable. See Advisory

Commercial testing industry is well aware of this and continue to promote the test, it's a high volume item, very profitable, and uses existing instruments.

I believe in January of this year SAMHSA agreed to review the test and as I understand it, make recommendations on cutoffs. But, once again, the industry is unregulated which means that such recommendations are only advisory, and the past recommendations have simply been ignored.

Testing labs, in agreement with the requesting agency, can and do use any cutoff they want. It varies from 100 through 2000.

Ok... so even with the low cutoff at 100/25 there should be no detection at that time of 110 hours? I have no liver problems and I'm in good health.

There is only a couple of cases that have tested positive after 100 hours. All detox units and both with some type of liver or kidney disorder.

EtG/EtS ratio question... [ 2 Answers ]

Hi DrBill (and anyyone else kind enough to provide answer), My question is about the EtG/EtS ratio relating to common testing cut-off levels. EtS cut-offs are commonly set at 1/4 of the EtG cut-off, but the only study I found regarding this ratio (Hoiseth, Bernard, et al. 2007) seems to indicate...
