    Ack! Trouble re-installing Access 97 on XP
    :confused: My PC is running XP Media. I had Access 97 installed on the PC but it was really buggy. Had an increasing number of errors just opening files. So this AM I uninstalled the software and then tried to reinstall it (97).
    I have a full copy, not an upgrade copy, but it still said it couldn't install unless it could locate qualifying products. I've no idea what is up with that, but regardless, I found my old copy of Office 97 and stuck the cd in the drive and pointed to that (as the screen instructed me to do). STILL didn't work! Obviously I installed it before, but now I can't do it at all.
    I really need to edit an old application I built for a client and don't know what to do.
    Any suggestions??

    Are you installing Access 97 with a newer version of Office already on the machine?

    What is the exact message you get?

    Thanks for the reply...

    The Windows XP was preinstalled on this PC. I did install Access previously on this PC, and though it was always a little flakey it did work. Recently it got worse (perhaps the XP upgrades killed it?) Anyway, I totally uninstalled.

    I just tried to reload and realized one screen says this is an upgrade. But the cd case and disk do NOT say that.

    THen it says it will search for a qualifying product. It says if the qualifying products have been unstalled, to insert the startup disk, click locate, and point to a drive containing a qualifying product.

    So I put my old office 97 Small Business Edition disk in the drive and selected the Excel folder. (This software IS labeled as an upgrade.)

    When I clicked to proceed, the system responds: "Setup has searched the chosen directory but cannot find any of the qualifying products". Same response for every folder on the disk.

    I am a legal user, I bought the dang software, but it won't let me load it. And I need to make changes for a user who has 97 only.

    Any ideas?

    I thought about buying the upgrade version of 2003... but since I don't have 97 on my PC anymore I can't even do that now!!

    Small Business Edition did not include Access as I recall. So that could be why its not showing a qualifying product. Is the disk you have JUST Access or is it a version of Office?
