How do I open a roll-top desk when I've misplaced the key?
How do I open a roll top desk that is closed and I have misplaced the key? Is there anything I can use as a key to open the lock?

    Hi csparks47!

I just moved your question that you had posted as a response to someone else's old question so that yours will get noticed more as being your question and not theirs. I also combined another question of yours with this one. This place doesn't work the same way that a chat room does. So, if someone wants to post a new question that's not really in any way related to the first post at the top of the page, then it's best to be starting a new thread with the new question.

My questions for you are, is this an antique roll-top desk or a newer one and what kind of lock mechanism is on it, please?

    Thanks!

Thank you for responding. It is a newer roll top desk and the lock mechanism is that of a socket key-like lock. It does have the fancy roll top desk key that has the prong @ the end of it. I'm unsure exactly the model & year but do know it is a newer model probably from the 90's - not the antique. I hope this helps.

    Thanks, csparks47!

That does help! One of our Home Improvement guys here did come up with, I think, a diagram for a lock and key a number of months ago. That thread and answers on it may be archived by now. I'll try to find it. In the meantime, I do hope that he notices your question.

    Thanks!

How does one unlock the drawers? The rolltop lock does not function and the drawers on the left are open. The locking mechanisms are spring loaded hooks that hook over the back of the drawers when they are closed. How do I get the right drawers open?
